Display an ounce of athletic ability and catch/deflect that ball before Betts does? It's clearly on the "fan" side of the wall and thus that would have been fair game. Perhaps more difficult when you've got 7 chins.

Yeah - unfortunately, this isn't just a NY thing. I never liked the "classy [insert city] fans right there" comments. I think there's a good possibility you could see fans for any team try that s***. No different than having fans throw s*** at players, or all the other ******** you see from time to time. People are f***ing stupid.

Yes, that is true with regard to the fans. The organization's response is very different though.

 

The guy who threw the beer was immediately banned for life by the Jays and faced criminal prosecution. Meanwhile, the Yankees have done everything they can to roll out the red carpet for these idiots.

A one game ban is egregious. I have no problem with them going for the ball while it's in the air and it's not clear if it's in the field of play (within reason), but actually holding his wrist / glove, bending it back, and ripping the ball out could have seriously hurt Mookie. They should get a minimum of a 5 year ban from all stadiums and never be allowed a seat in the first 3 rows again.
