Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 I guess it's possible someone gets desperate and makes a waiver claim on someone like Yarbrough if the Jays time it right.
The_DH Verified Member Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 Crap, that might mean we didn't get under the threshold. Hard to believe there isn't a complete determination of the exact amount and a plan for the remainder of the year. The directors would not be so sloppy.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 This tweet makes it seem like they just got under
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 imagine if rostering Dan Vogelbach is what puts them over the line $2m for a fat DH who they played like once a week for 2 months. If they pay the tax in 2024 when they'll have one of the worst teams in baseball and had tradeable assets that could have easily got them under, then heads have to roll. That's borderline incompetence.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 This tweet makes it seem like they just got under They are under but they are limited on the moves they can make the rest of the year is what it sounds like to me. Can't make endless waiver claims, maybe can't call Votto up, etc. because they are close to the line and those things could push them over. That said, there aren't a ton of moves to be made at this point so it should be fine.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2024 Author Posted August 1, 2024 Atkins still calling the shots it seems.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 Atkins still calling the shots it seems. Why wouldnt he be? Because a bunch of clueless fans somehow think he's been stripped of his authority based on nothing but guesses and wishful thinking?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 Atkins still calling the shots it seems. Nah, he's just the puppet for this verbal diarrhea.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 Why wouldnt he be? Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 You have inside information? I'm clueless and a liar...
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 Fangraphs already updated, they now have the Jays CBT hit for 2024 at 239.6 (over) instead of 235.4 (under). Cots and Spotrac haven't updated yet. Unbelievably stupid if they didn’t get under the tax. Really couldn’t take a lesser prospect in one of these deals to get rid of more money?? Come on

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 I'm clueless and a liar... Nah, I just know what it's like when I heard from a guy who knows a guy who heard from.... the message was changed 3 times before the end user heard it and is therefore unreliable in detail. I concede the possibility exists, just ... no actual evidence has been presented, and nothing about this trade deadline or recent front office activity would indicate otherwise. It's easy to read into circumstantial stuff like the Houston trade because of Click, but... of course Click would have input on that given that he worked there when the kids were drafted. That just makes sense. Doesn't mean he made the final decision outside of Atkins.
