The 2017 Jays started horribly but in June got to within 1 game of .500 multiple times. The last time they were a game under .500 that year was June 21. Their record: 35-36. They went on a tail spin from there.

 

The similarities to 2017 are scary.

 

The only reason a bunch of fans view .500 on June 17th as some sort of bellwether milestone shows how much the 3rd wildcard has changed the game for fans and front offices. Not a bad thing in and of itself, but it can lead to some awful FO decision making if not clear eyed about the teams quality and window. See LAA deadline 2023 >>>>
