Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 I don't understand your desperation to just blanket disagree with me every time I post something. We actually agree on almost everything! -We agree on IKF (you think he was a "great signing") -We agree on KK (we both think he is ass, you called it from the get go though so you deserve credit here) -We both think the player development under Atkins has been ass (especially the pitching) -the hitting coaches suck -the onfield performance of the core has been horrid -that Atkins has been bad and should be sent packing So is it just Justin Turner? Ok well let's ignore the costs and if he'd even sign here to begin with, but replace him with Teoscar. Do you think his 1.6 WAR has this team in contention? That's basically the only part we disagree on. So in sum, we agree on nearly everything but because I don't think Teoscar would have been some magic wand and you do, I need to "just give it up man"? Why? We agree on damn near everything! Bwahahaha... mint.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 You know times are tough when I'm longing to see Adam Cimber again. Hell, give me Trent Thornton. Gimme some Trent. Dude has a FIP under 3. Got to hand it to him for sticking and becoming a valuable pen arm.

Doubleplay21 Verified Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Springer batting 5th. Atkins doing the lineups now?
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Springer with one of the worst OPS's for a starting corner outfield in the last 100 years and he's batting 5th for the Jays

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 I need a stiff drink. Haha well, then get this....Springer's terrible OPS of .559 is still better than Kirk (.550) and KK (.523)
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Springer now has a 65 wRC+ in 295 PA this season. I'm kinda curious how low that wRC+ can go. Just get him to 600 PA and let's make some history.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Yeah I’m not surprised Kirk didn’t develop into a good player but didn’t think he was plain terrible. Jansen will go on his runs like Biggio used to and give some guys the feeling there’s untapped star there, but then he’ll get hurt and go through 1-30s and just level out to what he is. Better the save the $10m he would’ve been each year
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 Nor a soul worried about our pen, rationally. s*** happens. Destined to s*** the bed inevitably. Yeah and that’s why nobody is really complaining that they didn’t beef up/add pieces to the bullpen. Because last year it was great and its the same group of guys. Can’t do much about that. You cannot say the same for the offense. They should have done a better job addressing that weakness. Im not saying things would be “fixed” but I hate the fact that they made 0 improvements to the team’s weakest area and its a problem again for the 2nd year in a row.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 Realistically we needed about 4 more WAR from the pitching and 4 more WAR from the lineup to be competitive at this point. Yes, looking back there isn’t really anything that could have been done to “fix” this team. If Vlad and Bo aren’t playing like they should, and Springer and Kirk are giving almost nothing, not much would have changed. But I still can be upset that they basically ignored to offense after looking so terrible last season. They didn’t improve the team where it clearly needed to be improved. If you or anyone else thinks im unreasonable for that, im not really sure what to say.

Someone needs to tell Atkins that there are players who are good at both hitting and defense. He seems to feel he has to chose one or the other. Heck, it's even spreading among the guys we already have. Guys who used to be good at both (like Springer) can't hit anymore. Way to go Atkins.

I don't recall anyone on here over the last month or so complaining about beefing up the bullpen during the offseason. Might of criticized the Green extension in terms of money but that's about it. Otherwise, tough luck on the way things have gone with the pen this year. If the Jays under Atkins actually were good with player development, maybe they find one or two arms in the minors who could step up in the big league pen. We both agree they should have done a better job addressing the offense regardless. If this team had eyes set on contending, more should have been done. As well, turning back to the bullpen, maybe if the Jays added to the offense last winter, they're in a better position and its easier to add BP pieces one or two months before the deadline to patch things up. Look at a couple years ago when Atkins got Cimber at the end of June for example.
