Part of the problem is that the players are, for the most part, slowly turning it around but fan patience and reaction naturally lags behind.

The rolling xwOBA on Springer and his xStats in general are both fairly encouraging. That's not to say he's going to be a 4 WAR guy anymore but he should at least be decent.

Take today, he smoked a line drive over 110 mph and it had an xBA of .890 (or something like that) but it was hit right to the SS. Then he strikes out against an effective Closer throwing 100. Look at the box score and it looks like he sucked yet again but it's not a complete picture.

It's frustrating but the season is a grind. Digging yourself out of a hole, which both the players and team seem to slowly be doing, takes time. The day off followed with these 12 games against the Sox and Guardians will be pretty telling. Both of them are pretty solid teams but they aren't unbeatable. I think the Jays will play pretty well and will continue to crawl their way toward a WC spot.

Being on the optimistic side is better than being a miserable whiner all the time.

No, it's meaningless being optimistic. It has no bearing on any reality. I prefer to be honest about the fact that our window to compete is fraudulent because it just means it will be even longer until we do have a team ready to compete.

But you're welcome to continue to watch the years waste away and be content about it.

Being optimistic is enjoyable

Looking for the good in things is enjoyable

Following a sports team is supposed to bring you enjoyment

If it only makes you miserable and turns you into a whiny baby that spends a portion of his time going on the internet and complaining, why do it?

I got news for you, you can't control whether the Jays are good or not. You shouldn't let things you can't control make you miserable.

Or go ahead and do let it make you miserable, whatever floats your boat.

Why does every Debbie Downer on this board just automatically assume that pessimism = “being realistic”?

You can’t even have a conversation with The Masturbator because this logical fallacy is so deeply rooted in his brain that no matter what numbers, stats, facts and logic you present him he just dismisses it outright as frivolous pie in the sky thinking.

And that’s not to say that being pessimistic is the wrong take. This team can be downright painful to watch and there are plenty of solid arguments to make for why this team will continue to suck. But being optimistic doesn’t necessarily make someone wrong nor does pessimism automatically make someone “realistic”.

I suspect that being overly pessimistic is deep down a coping mechanism subconsciously. Not being able to face the reality that your beloved team is not what you had in mind hurts deep down. Gone are the bright hopeful days of spring training. In it's stead we have a bevy of underachievers who don't even know we're alive. So the only outlet is to lash out, like a jilted lover. In turn, one heaps scorn and derision on the one they love, in this case the Blue Jays. I can't/won't be hurt if I don't give away my heart. Damn you Blue Jays! Damn you all to hell!

Rogers must really love you. The perfect fanboy.

He either just got hired by Rogers or Ross Atkins wrote him a wonderful reference!

Keep drinking the Kool Aid!

Nothing wrong with being optimistic at all. Though according to you and some others of the Atkins cult, you're not allowed to criticize the GM or the front office on anything when it comes to this team. You can't keep giving him a free pass for everything.

I want to see the Blue Jays win a World Series more than anyone! I'm sure you do as well! Though it doesn't look like it's going to happen with Atkins in control. His window is closing. Hope I'm proven wrong.

Who said I'm miserable? This team does not bring me down in my day-to-day life. Anyone in that situation should probably seek counseling. However a team could certainly bring extra joy and fun into one's life. You know what's really fun? Winning championships, that's a lot of fun.

I think a better word for this team right now would be: disappointed. I'm disappointed in this failed attempt of a championship team.

Should definitely lead to a ban.

One poster on here loves calling posters Tampons. A lot of low level insults thrown around by some of these guys.
