Honest question here.

With Votto nearing the main roster, what is going to happen?

Soon we will have several players that are basically DH only in Votto and Vogelbach.

Are they really going to send down Ernie?

Vogel is such dead weight, i mean we know he is terrible, and he must like collecting a pay cheque, but batting in every 10th game? what is the point?

I have not heard anyone addressing the issue when they talk about Votto's injury progress.

If they bring up Votto, they better cut Vogel loose, i think people would riot if they attempt to send anyone down, Votto and Vogel are not the future of this team.

thanks for that input, reminds me why i never post.

I was just asking if anyone had any thoughts or opinions, or in your case, maybe just an opinion.

He'd replace Vogelbach.

Vogelbach is clearly becoming the worst bat on the team and provides no defensive value. We released him once, I don't know why we brought him back other than to please Kikuchi. Votto seems to be the next try-out for the position.

The only choice is Vogelbach. Which is just replacing one left handed defensively limited player with another. Would rather just give the roster spot to Barger or Horwitz or somebody but we can’t pass up the marketing opportunity to get Joey Votto 246 at bats in a Jays uniform

Looking like Votto won't even play this year. He must have broken his ankle in 47 places.

Also, Vogelbach may get forced off the roster sooner than that. I think they need to release him like TOMORROW or else his full $2M is guaranteed? I am surprised he is still here when Spencer Horwitz has a pulse.

If I’m being honest (and I always am) I think it’s slimy to still be rostering this out of org slug in Vogelbach while Horwitz sits in AAA earning $3500 a week with more walks than strikeouts. He’s 26 and on the 40 man roster, and been in the org since 2019. Get the guy up here and let him earn some service time

Didn't realize there were incentives there, i had thought it was 2MM if he made the roster, which is why i wasn't sure if the front office would just throw away 2MM. That said, getting rid of him is addition by subtraction anyway.

There was some talk at the end of spring that they could have DV sign an "advanced consent" thing which basically means he is guaranteed a pro-rated chunk of the $2M but he consents in advance to being.... demoted/cut by the 45th day of the season and foregoing the rest of his salary.

Dunno if they actually hammered it out that way though

Also, we may be past the deadline who knows

Vogelbach should have never made the team to begin with. Don't know why they decided to throw away $2M. It feels like a complete lack of faith in their prospects.

Horwitz is Biggio without the defensive versatility or speed.

Don’t care at all. If you’re going to dedicate a roster spot to a left handed hitter who can’t play defense I’ll choose the one who has been in your organization for 5 years making sweet f*** all, walking more than striking out over the ST invite guy who is a career journeyman

if the 26th man is going to barely play I can see why they would go with Vogelbach over Horwitz but what they should do is call up Horwitz and actually play him. Turner is old and needs days off and Horwitz can pinch hit a lot more. Steamer projects him for a 120 wRC+ for crying out loud. Surely they can find some playing time for him.

They are completely different minor league hitters. Howritz hit's .300 with 10 homers and a much lower k rate. Biggio was a .250 hitter.

Biggio minors: .252 ..373 .418

Majors: .228 .344 .380

You predict that Horwitz is going to lose 80 points of batting average while Biggio himself only lost 24?

Howritz will hit .280 .360 .400 or so and his defense will determine if that works (like he can't be a -20 defensive player). Or maybe he won't hit that, guys don't always reach their projections but it's still the best guess.

Biggio ... the guy hit .230 as a 22 year old college player in a ball. So the minor league numbers did tell us what he was, I think we just evaluated him at his best in 2018-2020, but the bad season in 2017 told us something to but non one paid attention.

If you look at the life time minor league numbers instead of best year it almost always is predictive.

Agreed. Considering Turner can’t hit righties anymore (decline started last season and gotten worse so far this year), they could easily find a way to get Horowitz into the lineup a few times a week against RHP. I get that he has options and they are just using it to their advantage but I agree there is something slimey about keeping a 26 year old in AAA when he has nothing left to prove there and rostering a fat slob with no value who plays the same position. I’m not even a Horowitz fan but he could potentially help the big league team if used properly.

Yessir I feel the exact same way. Vogelbach isn’t so valuable that you’re worried about losing him and Horwitz isn’t a blue chip 21 year old who you’re worried about controlling for an extra year. Get the kid in the big leagues and start earning some money. I get that some people won’t care about that but in my eyes it’s just doing the dude dirty

Riding the bus, eating peanut butter sandwiches and sharing an apartment in Buffalo vs everything that comes with being a big leaguer. Give the man the call

Guys only need 43 days of service time to trigger the first pension threshold. Get Spencer his 401k contributions

I was thinking about this, as 45 days would've been yesterday, I wonder how that works if implied.

His point is the answer is so obvious it doesn't warrant asking. Although I suppose given the incompetency of this front office they might keep both Vogelbach and Votto on the roster.

43? That's so arbitrary, lol.

Silverbach will go. They will give Votto a shot. Swap out lotto tickets. Much as I loved the short story non story around Votto I’d be happier just to give the Bisons Horwitz some at bats.

Is Votto still alive? I feel like he's been a nonperson since stepping on a bat two months ago
