L54 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Barger did him zero favors in that first inning. I think this first year is going to be somewhat of an adventure with having not pitched last year and throwing in relief in Japan the year prior anyway. But the Stuff models really like him and so does Steamer. Masturbator (disgusting username btw) is right that the #5 will become an issue at some point with his innings limit. He looks good enough to make it to the ASB at which point we can trade for one if we have to. Yes Steamer likes him but thats factoring in 30+ relief appearances too. He’s certainly going to be capped and it will be interesting to see how they manage his innings throughout the season
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Pitch 5 was the awful called strike I don't know if I've ever seen one worse than that Holy... lol. at least we actually scored 6 runs, needed everybit of that, f*** umpires man.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Had to listen to that game on radio watching son play ball in snow tonight. Man that sounded tense. Atta boy Nate. W! Trooper!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Never in doubt!!!! The good guys pull out a gutsy win. LETS GO BLUE JAYS *CLAP, CLAP* *CLAP, CLAP, CLAP* LETS GO BLUE JAYS *CLAP, CLAP* *CLAP, CLAP, CLAP* LETS GO BLUE JAYS *CLAP, CLAP* *CLAP, CLAP, CLAP*

I think.
Masterbather Verified Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Yeah Ben is a nepo baby but he was pretty confident and smooth tonight. Doesn't have the deep voice but was both smooth and confident as you said. I wasn't bothered by him.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Man I forgot that Perez was part of that 2015 Royals team that f***ed us up. And you know what grinds my gears? Buck said Sal has had "Hall of Fame" career yesterday. He is 17 career fWAR. Russell Martin has 55, and is never even mentioned as a HOF candidate by any commentator or analyst.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Holy... lol. at least we actually scored 6 runs, needed everybit of that, f*** umpires man. True, reminded me of that infamous Ben Revere "called strike" in our last ALCS game in 2015.

I haven't heard any analyst/broadcaster talk about Martin being a potential future HOFer either...

If a catcher gets over 100 steals they should automatically get in the HOF.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Author Posted April 30, 2024 He obviously shouldn't even sniff it but Sal Perez has a chance at the HoF. WS winner WS MVP 8x All-Star 5x Gold Glove Winner 4x Silver Slugger His trad stats will look good too 300+ homers 1000+ RBI .260+ average Dinosaur sports writers are foaming at the mouth to elect this guy. Might not be enough of them anymore but the veteran's committee will also be foaming at the mouth.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Author Posted April 30, 2024 "He was a big guy behind the plate. Could really take a beating with his size and toughness back there and he redefined the position by showing that big guys can play the position well. In addition to all the hardware and stats (Top 3 all-time for homers and RBI for Catchers!), his leadership skills and the way he handled a staff was indispensable for that small market Royals team that made back to back WS and won it in 2015. Just a great overall ballplayer." Every time he takes a foul ball off his mask or something you hear the announcer say something similar and that will get thrown in to his HoF pitch.

He's probably the most respected and talked about catcher for a while now. Any broadcast, they drool over him.

While you're right, and not to discredit the effects of catcher framing, the only reason Salvador Perez looks so incredibly unremarkable by fWAR is his framing has been historically bad for a guy with his kind of workload behind the plate. By bWAR he's at a much more respectable 34.5 WAR through age 33. As mentioned along with the accolades and the legitimately pretty strong hitting resume for a catcher, if he lived in another era like the 90s to early 2000s pre-framing metrics, we would look back at him as a slightly overrated stud in a small market that stayed loyal to his original team whom he brought lots of glory for. He's a big guy with pretty good blocking given his size, excellent at throwing out runners, plays all the time and is respected by pitchers, and has rare power for a catcher. Unfortunately he never learned how to walk so his OBP was always unremarkable, is likely overrated as a blocker just because he's a big guy, and has been woeful as a framer for years in part due to his size being a disadvantage at the bottom of the zone, not to mention his exceptional workload is actually a net negative here since it gives him more chances to accrue negative value there.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 How many does Kirk have? Lol As many as you'd expect. There's hope though, the Molina brothers combined for 94 steals between the three of them! 3 for Bengie, 20 for Jose and 71 for Yadi.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Any Kirk SB will for sure have footnote: - defensive indifference Like it's 10-1 and he's on first and Varsho on third and they don't GAF if he takes second All that said I still want to see it!
