Never has a paltry 7.5M AAV signing lead to so much bitching and whining in the history of this sport.

 

It's probably only been rivaled by the best fielding CFer of all time signing for 1 year 10 mil.

 

It's remarkable.

 

On its own, I agree. The only problem is that in making this signing, they used up most of their available budget and wouldn't be able to do anything better. It's like going all in on a pair of deuces.

Well that's not true because after we signed IKF we then signed KK (he might have signed right before but it doesn't matter), Turner, Yariel Rodriguez, etc.

 

All of them got a higher AAV than IKF so it's hard to say that he used up most of the budget.

IKF is surprisingly 1 of only 5 Jays position players so far who have been above replacement level by fWAR. He's also the only one of those 5 who has a wRC+ below 100.

 

Davis Schneider: 0.1 fWAR in 5 PA (269 wRC+)

IKF: 0.1 fWAR in 13 PA (70 wRC+)

Biggio: 0.1 fWAR in 18 PA (118 wRC+)

Turner: 0.1 fWAR in 19 PA (141 wRC+)

Vlad: 0.1 fWAR in 22 PA (150 wRC+)

 

Every other position player on the Jays so far either has 0 or negative fWAR.

Blanco was throwing it all spring a lot more than he did last year so I would think a good advanced scouting program would be checking out Astro's fifth start candidates in spring knowing you'd be facing them in the second series...maybe not though.

 

Pitchers work on different pitches throughout spring training. If he's been working hard to develop that pitch, it would make sense that he's throwing it more in spring training to gauge the results. Of course this is all premised on a statement the Jays weren't prepared for his changeup and someone should be fired and that claim was based on "watching the Jays hitters" - which is stupid. For all we know, the Jays staff may have known all alone that Blanco's changeup was much improved and that the Jays should expect him to throw it a lot more than last year. Even knowing that doesn't guarantee results.

If I'm being completely honest with you I didn't really hate the Green signing because I'm an absolute sucker for quality and quantity pitching depth.

 

IKF I don't like the 2nd year on his deal, and 10M to bring KK back was redundant considering we already have a platinum glove level CF in Varsho.
