I believe it 100% affects guys. Some players can be used in any situation and some guys develop their whole persona around being the man or the closer. Jordan Romano for example

For sure - routine matters to some players. Which kind of sucks for the team, as ideally, you want your best RPers pitching in the most important late inning moments. Years ago, I thought we'd see teams move away from just using their top guys as "closers" and use them when it really mattered (like the Jays are using Yimi). I thought we'd see the save deemphasized, but it hasn't happened to the extent I thought. It may take more time to change the mentality of RPers. Most of the guys in the majors now grew up in a time where the closer pitched the 9th (only).

I was happy to nab him for a late 1st couple years ago… oh wait, that’s actually when I was cheating moving players around 2 rosters… bitch:)

Integrity is amiss.

I don't think the Braves wanted Contreras catching. They place a huge emphasis on C defense.

Hasn't Contreras graded out very well defensively since the trade? Dude is an all around beast

Man - if the old adage "build up the middle" is true, then the Brewers are going to be a force for the foreseeable future.

C - Contreras

2nd - Turang

SS - Joey Ortiz (once Adames leaves)

CF - Chourio

Yeah. He basically went from an absolute butcher, doubtful if he'd stick at catcher, to one of the best defensive catchers in baseball post trade. He's regressed somewhat this year, but the Brewers won't be complaining that he's merely below average defensively now (if this is his true talent) when he's also the best hitting catcher in the sport, and a top 10 bat overall.

I still can't believe AA gave up William Contreras

You're definitely AA's toughest critic!

Sucks they gave him up agreed. Not one of AA's best moves with the Braves.

Even after trading Burnes and losing Woodruff from their rotation, and being without Devin Williams for half the season, Brewers are still a force.

Everyone loves jerking AA's managerial penis.. but this one could be a mistake. Flaccid AA move.

Looking forward to a robot-ump appeal system in MLB. There has been suggestions '25 or '26. 3 to 5 instant appeals per game. Touching or in zone or out.

We look at ump score cards and bitch about balls & strikes constantly, yet somehow framing is lauded and measured as D "skill".

I'll be happy when its substantially devalued in assessing defensive value. Also looking forward to Angel Hernandez eating s*** when he loses appeals.

Each team should get 20 appeals when Angel is umpiring. 3 to 5 would be used up by the 3rd inning.

I honestly wonder to what extent catcher framing will be diminished if we don't move to full robo-umps but just the appeal system. I bet you a lot of 0-0 strikes that someone like Kirk steals will still remain, but anything like a questionable 3-1 or 2-strike frame jobs will be significantly diminished, and while I don't recall exactly if count is factored into framing value, those are obviously the most important types of pitches that influence catcher framing. Conversely, a catcher that slaps at the ball - exceedingly rare in the modern game - low in the zone or at the borders is still going to be losing strikes even in an appeal system.

I think the 3 to 5 includes retaining your challenge on a successful appeal.

You're saying this to the biggest Ross Atkins homer on this board haha.

Why not just have the umpire get the actual call on every pitch instead of restricting it to a certain number of challenges?

We'll see. Been reading about it quite a bit. Calling fooling umpires and exacerbating human error "an art" is a joke that diminishes the game today with the technology available now. The new rules have been great for the game, and there was a lot of opposition initially. Now its just the norm. I think it will help the game.

Yes, You get 3 to 5 to make per game and if you are right they don't diminish. It would be awesome to watch Managers just f*** with the Ump show guys with a smile on their face. Push of a button.

The good thing is its a virtually instant decision. Of course the umps hate it because it "shows them up" which makes me like it more.

There is some ******** union - MLB rule that "enforcement has to occur on the field."

So they can't just robo every call. At least I don't think so.

It probably HAS to be something similar to the current video review system where the ump on the field relays the call.

I think it will get to every call as BTS suggested - but this appeal system is the hybrid they will use as the equivalent of "I'll just stick the tip in" with the umpires union.

Baseball can only take so much change at one time.

If not for Nelson f***ing us over in 2015 against Revere/Navarro with Wade Davis on the mound we might have been in the 2015 World Series.

I just started a new job and this older guy has signed photos of Ernie Banks, Carl Yastrzemski and Tony Conigliaro hanging in his office. The Ernie Banks photo also includes a signed letter.

He wrote them all back when he was 10 and they replied. Pretty cool.

You should nab it, and sell it on Ebay.

I'd give one appeal per plate appearance. It sounds like the challenge results are nearly instantaneous in nature so this would have a minimal effect on the pace of the game.
