Laika Community Moderator Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Tom Tango is the nom de plume. I am TangoTiger Hey Tigger Do you know if anyone is working on defining "swing repertoires"? When the bat tracking stuff went public this year one thing that I thought of is that it might be possible to show that certain hitters have a bag of different swings. Just like pitchers have different pitches with varying speeds and shapes. I mean we know they do, because they talk about A swings vs B swings publicly, and we can see different swings, but it would still be cool to define and it might help project performance or explain things.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Nick Senzel elected free agency after being DFA'd by the ChiSox, that has to be rock bottom for the 29 year old former top prospect.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Tyler Jankowski just made the catch of the year robbing a walk off home run from the (lol) White Sox. Holy s***.

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 So Jackson Holliday still sucks First 10 games in April: negative 52 wRC+ (2 hits in 10 games) with 50% K rate demoted called back up July 31 to August 7th: 275 wRC+ with four homers but 26% K rate (7 games) August 8 to present: 25 wRC+ with 31.4% K rate
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Who would’ve thought Spencer Spaghetti had him beat. Gem last night again

I know he's a baby and it's early but projections are already tanking a bit and this is some Jarred Kelenic s***.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Speaking of the Orioles, I feel like we haven't properly mocked them for the fact that their big FA splurge last year was Craig Kimbrel, who is replacement level and now pitches in low leverage situations. 14M wasted. Glass houses and all that, but they're only going to win like 91 games this year, which is pretty pathetic given what they had as a core. The Jays have been that good twice in the last 3 years.

BTS Community Moderator Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Can't wait for Santander and Burnes to be replaced with like Verdugo and Frankie Montas, Holliday to bust, Gray-Rod to get TJS, and the Orioles to win 85 games next year.

The contrarian take: They’re within a game or two of the best record in baseball. All other playoff teams were busy fine tuning their rosters, 2 years ago, based mostly on a single game, the Jays decided to take their org in a reverse direction and here we are. Outside looking in, trying to laugh at why maybe no team wins 95 games, as a consolation for being out of the playoff picture in May, when standings are as such

Outside looking in, trying to laugh at why maybe no team wins 95 games, as a consolation for being out of the playoff picture in May, when standings are as such I didn't read past the first line, but I'm guessing its a full-throated defense of the Orioles. Which is not a contrarian take around these parts. It's the take of the masses. My take (the Orioles haven't been serious about winning and have actually made some pretty bad moves) is the contrarian, bold, brave take. The Orioles this year are the 2021-2023 Jays.

"The Orioles are good" is not a contrarian take. The baseball media conglomerate has been fluffing their nuts non-stop for two years.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 The Angels are calling up Caden Dana to make his major league debut Sunday against the Mariners, reports the Orange County Register’s Jeff Fletcher. Something of a surprise here, in part because the 20-year-old Dana has already thrown twice as many innings as he did last season. He is 9-7 with a 2.52 ERA and a 147/39 K/BB in 135 2/3 innings for Double-A Rocket City. He’s an excellent prospect, but joining a bad team and having no Triple-A experience would seem to make him a weak fantasy bet for the short term. Sounds about right for the Angels...
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Three games against the Jays to boost his line. It's so true 94 mph meatball from Ryan Burr - homer 85 mph hanging slider from Yerry Rodriguez - long homer 90 mph s***** cutter from Bassitt - homer three of his five dingers are off the Jays lmao
Johnny King Vancouver Canadians - A+ LHP The 19-year-old top prospect has made 16 High-A starts. He is 3-2 with a 2.92 ERA. In 61 2/3 innings, he's walked 35, but he's struck out 83 batters. Explore Johnny King News >
