Can't wait for Santander and Burnes to be replaced with like Verdugo and Frankie Montas, Holliday to bust, Gray-Rod to get TJS, and the Orioles to win 85 games next year.

You never know. I've always been a proponent of never assuming anything about "windows" to compete and taking your opportunities when they pop up. They should have made a serious investment at the trade deadline for starting pitching last year and not simply assumed that they'll be dynamos for the next six or seven years because s*** does happen. Maybe last year was their best opportunity, then again maybe they'll win three titles in the next 6 years. But you take nothing for granted in sports. That's why I felt the 2021 Blue Jays should have gone even more all in and earlier than they did, especially with the bullpen.

The Cardinals are going to place outfielder Tommy Pham on waivers, reports Katie Woo of The Athletic. He has not been designated for assignment and can continue playing for the Cards for now. He can also stay with them if he goes unclaimed, but the waivers are irrevocable, so he will be changing teams if any other clubs puts in a claim. He will be postseason eligible for his new club as long as he is claimed prior to September 1.

I think I read the Giants did the same with Taylor Rogers, Tyler Matzek and Thairo Estrada

At least the Orioles will be playing baseball in October. Geez what an awful team and organization!

Remember - making the playoffs doesn't mean anything. Only playoff wins matter. Also, it's not just any organization. It's the greatest organization in sports history that was destine to break the all-time wins record and go back 2 back 2 back 2 back 2 back. Do you guys think Mike Elias survives the offseason when the O's get bounced again without winning a playoff game?

I'm heading over to the Orioles Hangout right now to start the Fire Brandon Hyde thread.

If you build a truly talented team with few weaknesses, that's all you can do. If you put together a good pitching staff with a f***ing putrid offense, for instance, you haven't built s***.

I’m sure you’re trying to be tongue-in-cheek, like back in your Girl Scout days, but no one said making the playoffs doesn’t mean anything. Even if you get swept in the 1st round, it sure beats not playing a meaningful game after May 1. I mean, who would claim getting swept in the 1st round isn’t better than that? What kind of season is being toast in May?

If you’re clearly a playoff team all year and then you lose in the playoffs, of course it feels like that was all pointless, if you get swept 1st round.

You f***ing idiot. "The Orioles are good" is not a contrarian take. The baseball media conglomerate has been fluffing their nuts non-stop for two years.

You shouldn’t let the fact that I’m smarter than you, be so bothersome. You certainly don’t see me gloating about it. Not a big deal. We’re all just posters sharing some opinions. Good times.

Good luck making him understand that

Team Science has lost it. They are cherry picking a moment where the Orioles look weak to grab a "win".

Let me step that back. Team Science isn't stupid. They are savvy and good at social and work politics and know when to grab a win. Their corporate ladder climbing instincts are kicking in.

So why does Team Science hate the Orioles? I think instinctually they know not to diss management, so kind of like in a work place, if some other company looked like they have awesome management you don't point it out. You stick with your guy. Then when you can you get your guy some wins.

The worst case scenario, for the Orioles, is at the end of this year, their winning cycle still beats the Jays winning cycle because they at least won a division title... with the rest of history yet to come and the Orioles having no contract issues yet, a way better farm system and more payroll space.

One thing that is funny is that I got destroyed for pointing out the Bonilla and Nimmala's low sample size numbers were meaningful because of the high k-rate and super low batting average (which could indicate way too high pop-up rate in addition to k-rate).

Team science of course advocated for logic and reason.

But now when it comes to Jackson Holliday they are using the exact same intuition. Everything is complicated and they aren't totally wrong. Holliday's high k-rate and low average (especially if the latter is caused by high pop-up rate) could already be meaningful. Like maybe his struggles are different than Mike Trout's early struggles... or maybe not.

It's all complicated but when you use "science" and "logic" it makes much better sense... somehow. I guess? I haven't figured it out yet to be honest.

We are shitposting the Orioles because it's funny.

If you want to remove the humour from the situation, the facts are something like this:

- You are very right about Nimmala and Bonnilla. We can basically forget about Bonilla at this point and Nimmala's K rate makes his chances of making it or being great rather puny. Sometimes when someone is "very correct" people on the internet instead of saying "you are correct, but here is a small counterpoint" just go straight to the small counterpoint. There are some small counterpoints about Nimmala of course, age and power and position all help his case a bit and there are some precedents.

- People in baseball are underreacting to Jackson Holliday's MLB struggles. Too many are just saying "well, he's young he will figure it out". Mike Trout at 19 was not great but he was better than this and his K rate was normal. Jackson Holliday's MLB struggles take him down the ladder from "sure thing prospect" to "50% chance to be Jarred Kelenic"

It is what it is

Try to be less autistic and it will make more sense

I'm quite impressed how readily the non team science members have adopted the flat earthers label.

Jackson Holliday is older than Jackson Chourio, who is in the middle of a 3.5 WAR rookie season.

Jackson C is actually a good example of why people should NOT freak out about Jackson H

Jackson C through May 31

61 wRC+

27% K rate

Holliday a bit worse than that and his 35% K rate is IMO much more concerning, but still. close.

Jackson Merrill is the best Jackson though

Chourio is easily going to pass that geriatric next year

Neither of them walk enough. Subject to the BABIP gods forever.

Chourio might not even be the best Chourio...

The Orioles simps are too easily triggered (except for MikeM). Point out any sort of flaw about their favorite team and they immediately clutch pearls and start throwing rocks at their second favorite team (the Blue Jays).

Bizarre behavior from very sad people.

Chourio is the new Julio...could be the new face of the MLB. Hopefully he doesn't struggle like Julio has recently.

If the Orioles were in any other division I'd be sucking their D. But they ain't so I hope all of their young players who oddly look alike perform terribly.

Honestly, they should be investigated for this. Has there been a more pale team in the last few decades? And who are widely rumoured to be finished with the team this offseason? Anthony Santander and Cedric Mullins. Of course. I'm not casting aspersions on Mike Elias, but the Orioles should probably be barred from making any transactions until we figure what the hell is going on.

Yeah this is a big part of it.

I've hated them for a while. Back in the Bautista days they were a bunch of crusty no-fun prudes ran by Buck Showalter and would always throw at him. They sucked so bad they couldn't even do that and he'd homer off them later that game or even in the same AB.

I think even the Orioles simps around here understand the "f*** 'em" attitude when it comes to the Yankees. I don't care if they are good or not, f*** 'em. I will always enjoy pointing out their demise when it happens. It's similar to the Orioles, only on a Blue Jays message board of all places we have active Orioles fans who actually cheer for them.

I mean geez, we've dealt with Orioles trolls from Orioles Hangout before who would brag about their real life celebrity posters. But now we've got our own homegrown Orioles terrorists/trolls. Sad stuff.

I'd have to look it up, but I'm pretty sure the 2024 Orioles look like the most diverse team in baseball compared to the JP Ricciardi Blue Jays.

It's like they were made in a factory downtown.

I have it on good authority that Rob Manfred already had a sit down with the Orioles about this

A new committee for DEI was formed in the Baltimore organization and Adam Jones Skype'd into the first meeting

That is why they drafted Enrique Bradfield 17th overall last year

Of course they followed that up with 2024 first round pick Vance Honeycutt, who comes from old plantation money in N Carolina. There has been some controversy about that selection.
