Looks like the experiment to start Hicks is coming to an end. He's around 100 IP and his effectiveness has dropped every month. BB/9 over 5.50 the last 2 months. His fastball was sitting around 94 MPH in his last game. SF may move him to the pen now. Will be interesting if they put him back in the rotation to start next year and continue trying to build his innings up.

His fastball was sitting around 94 MPH in his last game. SF may move him to the pen now. Will be interesting if they put him back in the rotation to start next year and continue trying to build his innings up.

 

That's their plan, and they've admitted fatigue is now a factor. He'll start next year, but the pen is nearing this season. Same with Crochet.

Hell of an experiment though. Clearly he’s gassed now, but if they can build his innings more next year then he should be able to hit 160ish for the last 2 years of the deal. His numbers through his first 10 or so starts were great.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Will his arm fall off? Will his performance decline with the large bump in innings pitched? or will he be able to build upon what he did this year?
