It was a pretty eyeroll-inducing joke, but I don't quite know about embarrassing for MLB.

The fact you can see his shirt through his pants is the embarassing part. I had higher quality uniforms on my non competitive little league team in the 80's..

BA has Jackson Holliday's brother Ethan as No. 1 for 2025 MLB draft

I feel like when Jackson got drafted they were saying Ethan was even better. I wonder if that is still possible?

Ethan is a fair bit bigger, not a little brother. One or two ticks up on the power grade.

That Ryu deal for the KBO is apparently an 8 year deal, not a 4 year deal as first reported.

8 year, 12.8m

That seems like an awfully long deal for a guy of Ryu's age and injury history. The dollars are so low that it also seems semi pointless to lengthen to term to lower the AAV as well, but I'm not particularly familiar with the economics of the KBO to comment too specifically about this.

Tin Anderson to the Marlins 1 year 5.5M

Rosario to the Rays 1 year 1.5M

Why did we have to pay IKF so much and give him multiple years?

How the hell is Nike outsourcing the jersey production to Fanatics? It's got the Nike logo on it so you'd think they'd want to have some quality control over their product.

Probably done for the season unless he tries to play through it and tears it.

Anderson may have only been considering one year deals with teams where he would be the starting SS. Seems like the best path to recapturing the value he lost with his atrocious season at the plate in 2023.

Rosario has never played any 3B in the bigs, and graded as a terrible SS defender last year. Hard to say what he'll be moving forward, but we definitely don't need another light hitting 2B type.

Based on the purpose for which IKF was signed, neither of those guys was likely an option. If you are specifically looking for the 3B defense and versatility, you are definitely much better off paying IKF than either of those guys.

It's like salary cap circumvention, but in the KBO

I really like the low risk high reward aspect with Anderson. Easily a better deal than IFK if he was willing to play 3B, which we don't know at the moment.

Anderson did get a similar figure AAV to IKF, a couple million bucks is not a big differential.

Could be that Rosario ends up looking like a specific weirdly low deal. There are not actually going to be that many players to even compare. If you sort the free agent infielder list by projected WAR, after Chapman, everyone projects to be a below average player and it kind of just becomes a function of internal projections and roster fit.

Candelario 3/$45 is looking like a huge mistake

IKF 2/$15 might be a mild overpay

But, AAV for IKF is about the same as Merrifield and Merrifield has worse projections

We will see what the remaining relevant comps like Urshela, Kike, and Solano get.

I am sure that IKF's agent milked some extra money out of Toronto because Toronto saw him as a specifically good roster fit among a s***** free agent infielder crop. Just not sure how much extra money was milked. If he plays well that second year might actually make him an asset... we will see.

Ross Atkins is an idiot.

IKF made more sense for the Jays given that he’s a really good defensive 3B, and can cover SS if necessary. He’s also someone that can transition into a utility role if a better option presents itself. The Jays clearly value defense so that was likely their mindset. Rosario is more of a 2B/OF and I think Anderson hasn’t played anywhere but SS (where his defense has regressed). I recall Robert Murray saying there was legitimate/surprising demand in IKF this winter, and IKF himself said he was surprised at how much interest there was in him. Maybe the industry values him differently than what his numbers suggest. Or maybe this is just me trying to rationalize.

And it's not like I even wanted Anderson AT ALL, it's just that the IKF contract seems like an overpay in relative terms with his non-existent offensive production

I'm honestly surprised Atkins still has a job but does he survive if we miss the playoffs or don't win a single playoff game again?
