Varsho is at least an average regular in every OF position

WAR is WAR

His bat only seemed too light for LF last year because there were multiple other soft spots in the lineup with players like Kirk and Vlad and Springer hitting so poorly

The typical LF is a thumper but it's all about balance

BTS' Brett Gardner example is perfect

So.... just need some offensive additions elsewhere. One big DH would go a long way tbh. And then how about an offense first 3B like Justin Turner? Varsho is your 8th hitter or whatever. Everyone is happy

Whether I like this move or not depends on what else we do. We need 2 big bats. If KK is taking up one of them, we have a problem. If not, this is a good move at a good price imo. I'd also expect him to be closer to 2 WAR.

Fair take.

Varsho needs to move to CF to be full value. Who doesn’t like KK, but $10M for D depth. We do need increased offense wherever it comes from. At 2+ WAR in '23 he was a bargain. I don't expect 130 gms and over 400 PAs again given his age and IL history.

Have mentioned Turner a number of times, but as more of a DH and potential 3B fill in if the internal options aren't cutting it. Turner and Bo on the left side would be rather weak.

Isn't Spanky still hard coded into the site?

Likely, the error message today were just him taking a s***. I just want the Wamco and Spanky feud to end. This would do it

I don't think Turner can be relied on to play even a semi regular third base at this point of his career. He played there sporadically in 2023 and his metrics look pretty awful in the short sample.

Feud, dude's batshit crazy?

If Justin Turner can still play third he’s the best target. No idea if he still can

Turner for like 1/12

JDM 1/15

IKF 1/8 to back up everywhere

Punt Espinal

Might be too much money spent

The devaluing of an asset already on the team is the only reason I can find to dislike the Kiermaier reunion. I just tend to think that the team would be far stronger overall if they played Varsho in center field full time and brought in another player to be 4th outfielder vs presumably handing center field starting duties to Kiermaier.

They SHOULD have the $30M needed to fill DH and 3B. They might be the end of the money though. Who knows

Agreed. Having an elite defensive CF with a questionable offensive projection and putting him in LF for the 2nd year in a row just seems like a waste. It's possible that the Jays did not want to commit to a multi year deal to any of the remaining FA outfielders, and KK was the only one who was willing to sign a one year deal. But again, let's see what the other moves are. A power hitting DH is essential now.

If the Yankees are out at the deadline I easily think they take Bo for Soto. I think we just wait and bank on that deal. Then probably yamamoto when the dodgers are out of it.

Yeah good call if Turner can play 100 games at 3B he’s a no brainer

I think so too but I kinda doubt he can which makes my plan irrelevant lol

This was a team friendly deal, hmm... what are they up to. :P

You think he left money on the table?

Maybe 80? Maybe even 60 and he’d be worth it. Cobble together the other 100 with IKF and Biggio?

Possibly, it was more tongue in cheek. Yet he was projected to get a lot more by the FA listings.

Fangraphs had him at 2/24M... MLBTR 2/26M

Wow didn’t see Fangraphs projection for him. Maybe you are right. 2/24 for KK would make me sick

Feels like they’re definitely going to be cobbling the position together no matter what

I'm at the point where I hope Chapman can be had on a 4 or 5 year deal given how ugly the alternatives look.

The fact that the alternatives are so ugly is the reason someone probably DOES give him a longer/better deal than we all want the Jays to give him

I think he gave the Jays a number, and a deadline. If they didn't make that he would start talking to other teams. KK wanted to be a Jay again this year.

Kiermaier's projection on Steamer is weirdly light

If he's only providing 1 WAR it's probably because he has a major injury

That’s a positive reflection of the club. He’s an AL East fella

Yet, he doesn't have a major injury. Doesn't their numbers go over the last 2 years of data, including stats, age, injury and games played thrown in there?

It would be because he's old

They are projecting defensive decline and neutral baserunning

His BsR number from last year was randomly negative which doesn't help

I would assume his D to be as good as last year, his baserunning to be positive, but his offense to regress a bit

If he stays healthy and gets into as many games, he probably approaches 2 wins again.

Yeah, can't see why not? He tailed off bigly from his hot start, but a 90 wRC+ should get him there.
