Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 I emptied my account on Jays signing Ohtani bets The last time we hear from Hurl.....
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Here is what happened. CAA leaked the flight info for their client Robert Herjavec, knowing who everyone would think is on the flight. This was actually a test to see if Toronto fans and Media would respect Ohtani's privacy. Toronto failed miserably. We just Dave Robert's our front office

Casual Fan Verified Member Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Wow, Mr. Ohtani Shohei is coming to Toronto, what a great day to hear this great news. Canada is a rich country, Toronto in one of the most affluent cities in North America or even the world, and Bluejays are one of the wealthiest teams in the major league. We can afford this without a headache. Congratulations to fellow jay fans, let's have a fun season.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Ohtani is supposedly holding leaks against teams. My guess is that would involve teams spilling info on meetings taking place. Not fans getting excited on twitter Whatever the case is this whole day doesn't look favourable on the Jays fan base lol. He wants to stay out of the spotlight and today just showed how much of a circus it was just from people expecting he was on an airplane.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 It was a busy day at work. Haven't checked my computer or twitter account all day. What did I miss?

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Is JP Hoopstra just holding the line or what

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2023 Author Posted December 9, 2023 He's probably s***ing bricks and praying that Ohtani signs with the Jays
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2023 Author Posted December 9, 2023 This isn't fair we deserve him. Back off Dodgers.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 He's probably s***ing bricks and praying that Ohtani signs with the Jays Really just Kevin Graying it eh
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 So, entrapment? Well I don't think they were looking to secure prosecution, but I understand your point. Also please do not take my theory as factual in any way
Marew Verified Member Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 I know nothing happened but the circumstantial evidence has become unbearable and irresponsible to ignore. It would be irresponsible to not say to anyone on Twitter than he is a blue jay.

It would be irresponsible to not say to anyone on Twitter than he is a blue jay. Except all the “circumstantial” evidence is made up. There is that.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Nobody from the Jays has leaked anything, the only person from the Dodgers that said anything about anything was the manager. Media members are just doing what they do best, generate clicks. Nothing the media reports on is going to be a factor in Ohtani’s decision. So far both FOs have been about tight lipped as ever. Gonna really suck when the Braves sign him.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Does anyone else feel like they were in a bad mystery movie? There was a series of coincidences which could only lead you in one direction...only to find out it was TwistedLogic with a leadpipe in the Redditverse! I mean we have a private flight to Toronto from the airport that Ohtani flies out of. We have Kikuchi's wife posting on insta out of Toronto for the first time, despite them living here all off season. It is her birthday and Yusei is a good husband who books a restuarant for 50 people. How does she even know 50 people in Toronto???? The ticket account reps all in training today and away from their phones making people believe they are training them for a huge rush. The front office staff being called in to work today for the first time in over a month. It is crazy and we never learn from our past mistakes. In the end I know I am probably a horrible person because this was fun for me. And who knows, maybe we can do it again next week
Marew Verified Member Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Except all the “circumstantial” evidence is made up. There is that. You could say that but it has become quite apparent that I think we got him, just in my heart I feel I am right here.
itaos Verified Member Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 I know nothing happened but the circumstantial evidence has become unbearable and irresponsible to ignore. It would be irresponsible to not say to anyone on Twitter than he is a blue jay. You could infer from Hoornstra that the Dodgers thought they were out of the running this morning. Maybe they increased their offer? Maybe Ohtani decided weeks ago and the agent is milking the media attention to create urgency?

I prey to the baseball gods that Ohtani signs where ever he signs by Sunday. This is lunacy.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 My optimistic take is that someone with the Dodgers, knowing Ohtani is signing with the Jays, in a fit of angst because carefully laid plans had failed, leaked the news. So let's be patient, Ohtani is ours.

bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 That much smoke today, there has to be fire. Also didnt the Dodgers guy just say that he has chosen the Jays not that the signing was happening today? I expect the contract details and physical will take a bit could still be in the Jays pocket.

Yes it’s clear we 100% have him. Just ironing out the details.
Masterbather Verified Member Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 The funny part is, from a baseball standpoint this probably isn't even a smart signing. You have a guy who's already on his second elbow surgery in a matter of a few years, even when he comes back to pitch, who knows how long he can do both at an elite level, yet he will be paid an enormous sum of money for a significant amount of time based on the assumption that he does both for at least a large portion of that contract. It's also assuming that his body doesn't wear down in general and his ability to hit at a high level also declines rapidly. Yet, everybody wants him, and nobody really cares about such risk in this moment. The anticipation has built to a fever pitch. The pain of rejection would be significant.

He was 6.6 WAR strictly from DH last year lol.
