Nobody from the Jays has leaked anything, the only person from the Dodgers that said anything about anything was the manager.

 

Media members are just doing what they do best, generate clicks. Nothing the media reports on is going to be a factor in Ohtani’s decision. So far both FOs have been about tight lipped as ever.

The ticket account reps all in training today and away from their phones making people believe they are training them for a huge rush. The front office staff being called in to work today for the first time in over a month.

You could infer from Hoornstra that the Dodgers thought they were out of the running this morning. Maybe they increased their offer? Maybe Ohtani decided weeks ago and the agent is milking the media attention to create urgency?

My optimistic take is that someone with the Dodgers, knowing Ohtani is signing with the Jays, in a fit of angst because carefully laid plans had failed, leaked the news. So let's be patient, Ohtani is ours.

You have a guy who's already on his second elbow surgery in a matter of a few years, even when he comes back to pitch, who knows how long he can do both at an elite level, yet he will be paid an enormous sum of money for a significant amount of time based on the assumption that he does both for at least a large portion of that contract. It's also assuming that his body doesn't wear down in general and his ability to hit at a high level also declines rapidly.

 

Yet, everybody wants him, and nobody really cares about such risk in this moment. The anticipation has built to a fever pitch. The pain of rejection would be significant.
