Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 One other thing that Ohtani might find value: he can probably live in anonymity here in Toronto. Privacy seems to be important. Torontonians are literally tracking some random flight which he may or may not be on. The worst part is this isn't even the first time they've done this in the past 5 years (Kawhi Leonard saga fiasco).

Privacy seems to be important. I mean, it's not like he will be a nobody here. He may not be hounded as much as he is in LA, but he is going to be a very visible player in the city. He might not have as much attention from Japanese media (LA has the largest Japanese city population outside of Japan)
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 This is all Krylian's fault because he's normally a downer but he jinxed it with all his happiness.

Privacy seems to be important. Watching ESPN MLB news right now. They're talking about what a mistake it would be to sign in Toronto because of lack of exposure to US tv rights. I think that could be a positive for us. I think its honestly the opposite... People are tracking planes and restaurants reservations in Toronto, its more insane than anything. If he's seen on the street people will go nuts and go up to him lol. But at his celeb status that's just one of the deals of being a mega superstar

rydermike Verified Member Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 The question is, who's on the plane heading to Toronto? Ohtani is on the plane. He's coming to Kikuchi's party for their mutual friend's birthday. That's all.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 This is all Krylian's fault because he's normally a downer but he jinxed it with all his happiness. Soak it all up while it lasts.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 I guess theres a chance the Dodgers were informed they're out and have leaked it.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Toronto is a relative small pond (in the major sports landscape) and he’s a gigantic fish. He will have less privacy in Toronto/Canada, if anything.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 I guess theres a chance the Dodgers were informed they're out and have leaked it. Im really really hoping that’s what happened here
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Let's be real. The media here will explode the day of the signing and maybe for another week and then on opening day. Then it's back to Leafs coverage. I think if media attention is a sore spot for Ohtani (which I don't think he really cares either way FWIW), the Jays FO would have made that clear.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 I would find it hilarious if Dave Roberts opening his mouth was what changed it towards us.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Ah yes, the famously reasonable and paragons of morality, the BBWAA. It's more likely that the Sportnet guys haven't been told yet than it is likely that this Dodgers reporter is wrong
The_DH Verified Member Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 How many 6’6 buff asian dudes have you seen walking around dowtown Toronto? Can't say I look around town for 6'6" buff asian dudes. But I did see Dave Winfield and Lou Piniella in Yorkville when they were big and nobody was getting in their faces.

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 This is going to be Darvish all over again. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/12/blue-jays-to-reportedly-sign-shohei-ohtani.html

He will have less privacy in Toronto/Canada, if anything. I don't know about that. Canadians tend to not bother celebs on the street too much. I think he'd be able to avoid a lot of public interaction here
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Jays are probably not saying a peep until the ink is dry...maintaining the status quo! Then Ohtani's camp can't say they leaked anything
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 The plane is currently over Nebraska
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 I don't know about that. Canadians tend to not bother celebs on the street too much. I think he'd be able to avoid a lot of public interaction here Without a cap and baseball uniform he would blend in with all the other Asians in Toronto easily.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Dodgers currently like the dumped partner who immediately go tell everyone they know what a shitbag you are even though they were in love you with you until 2 minutes ago
Ray Verified Member Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 I mean, it's gotta be verbally done and just leaked early, right? Chances are Ohtani's camp probably want to break it themselves. Like with all that's transpired today, it would be maybe the biggest blue balls on earth if he doesn't sign with the Jays at this point
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Dodgers currently like the dumped partner who immediately go tell everyone they know what a shitbag you are even though they were in love you with you until 2 minutes ago But will never say that you have a massive cock. I'm here to tell you that we do.

The_DH Verified Member Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Wonder if Rogers is trying to do something big in the Japanese market? Edward Rogers wouldn't be doing this without a real big reason. I might be getting ahead of myself.
