You would think after seeing how dangerous the position is this season and losing Jansen to a broken finger you would understand the danger of using Varsho behind the plate in anything other than an emergency situation.

If you like I can run the very simple math on how often an emergency catcher has been used in MLB in the past 17 seasons (it’s twice) vs catcher injuries over the same time frame to compare which is more likely to happen. Here’s a hint on the catcher injuries, it’s a bit higher than 2.

I might consider your position a little more reasonable if it was Kirk and Jansen on the postseason roster given how the Blue Jays are willing to leave themselves bare over the course of a game in order to get both players in the game. But we don't know when Jansen is coming back if at all.
