93 Jays Verified Member Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 This guy has come up with several key hits and has scored quite a few important runs as of late. I'm of the opinion that this guy is a starting position player. He not only has baseball pedigree but if you look at his career stats? He has never played in more than 100 games in his career, with 354 AB'S as his max. Some of it was due to injury and some of it poor performance. But I think both of those things can be partially attributed to his performance. IMO, he's a guy that can play several positions and play better than average defense at them all aside from right field. I think he can be a guy that hits 20 home runs, drives in 75, steals 20 bases, hits .260 and puts up and OPS of about .725 to .775. I think it was John who made a valid point, being how long can you wait for a guy. but the fact is, if you look at his numbers, he's never played anything close to a full season where he gets 550 AB'S. It's all been broken by several injuries and then lacklustre performance. I think that what we are seeing now is a healthy Cavan and if I were in charge(thank facking jesus I'm not), he'd be my starting 2B and when he's not playing there, he's at first, third or left field. I think management is missing out on a diamond in the rough. Injury free, I believe he gives you good numbers, bordering on excellent defense and a WAR of 3 or more. I just can't ignore the fact that baseball is in his genes. Craig was a very good player, I mean the guy is 6th in doubles all time. While recording over 3,000 hits, hitting over .280 career and scoring almost 2 thousand runs all while being chosen as a seven time all star. I believe in him, my gut tells me he is a starting major league player.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 He's been good this year I still see him as a super utility guy not a full timer ay any one position
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Dare I say Cavin > Craig ?
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 He's been good this year I still see him as a super utility guy not a full timer ay any one position With a 127 wRC+ since May 22nd, he should certainly get regular at-bats against righties, but his steady defense at a variety of positions makes him more valuable as a utility player in my opinion. If we didn't have other options at 2B then sure, but we do, and he's been so good in his current role that I don't see a need for change.

Even as a strong side platoon bat his ISO against RHP is .180, wrc+ 105 for his career. This season it's .162, behind both Varsho and KK. The walks give him a strong enough base to start from from but getting that ISO against RHP back up to career norms or even over .200 would be massively beneficial. Without that, he's a stopgap utility guy at best.

If we do - he's going to be a stud and a fulltime starter.

A utility guy, sure Holy s***, the only reason to hate on Biggio is this multi-year running theory that he’s a FT kind of guy that just needs more ABs The pro-Biggio guys are quiet until he has a couple week stretch of good games, and then it’s on like Donkey Kong

I'd be more thrilled with the league average guy as the weak side of the platoon, unless the weak side guy does have legit well above average power against LHP that is consistently being displayed. Biggio is a vanilla backup with no outstanding attributes that warrants more playing time than that of a backup IMO. He's a very good bench guy to have though, like as far as bench guys go, he's definitely a guy you want to have around. To me, strong side of a platoon is more than a bench role. He exists in the gray space somewhere between bench guy and strong side platoon for me.

Of all his HRs in the majors, all but 5 for Biggio have come against RHP. Against lefties he's the limpest of noodles.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Interesting that everyone considers him a platoon bat. Career wRC+: v. LHP - 102 v. RHP - 105 And it's no different this year...

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Biggio is the ideal semi-regular. Plays multiple positions, and does the job as a professional without complaint about playing time or whatever. Unlike you know who.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Usually I’ve been a spark for Jansen and Biggio when I choose to rag on them, so I will go ahead and do us all a favor here: Been an exciting roller coaster this season and plenty of that “he’s going to break out excitement”, but here we are Sep 28 almost and his wRC+ has dipped below last year, despite getting the vast majority of his ABs against RHP Max, go ahead and do you your thing though. May 17-Aug 22 sample size, please

May 17-Aug 22 sample size, please What is your problem? Biggio is a quality bench bat. Utility players typically get 350-500 PAs a season depending on injuries and Biggio fills that role nicely. After a horrible start to the year, he's hit and played well and contributed to the team. End of story. 117 wRC+ from May 17th to Sept 27th - and he doesn't have huge platoon splits at all.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Biggio is alright. He's a mediocre defender, with middling power and middling speed. You can definitely find platoon guys who would put up more WAR in his amount of playing time. I'm kind of sick of him tbh! Really boring player. Not an impact guy at all. Not a game changer, ever.

93 Jays Verified Member Posted October 8, 2023 Author Posted October 8, 2023 Gotta love you keyboard jockey's who sit there pretending to know jack sheiit about baseball with your bullcrap micro breakdowns. When in fact, you're obviously compensating for something? Who knows? Small wiener syndrome? It makes me laugh out loud, knowing that the vast majority of you are most likely little douche sponges who are probably unemployed and living in mommy's basement playing video games. I can count on one hand, the number of people here who actually know jack about the game. While you sit there and gang up on people like high school cum dumpsters who couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag. Last post for me here. For unlike you, I can't be bothered wasting my time discussing anything with people who lack the brain power to jumpstart an electric wheelchair. Good luck. Now go eat the dinner mommy cooked for you. See ya!

No need to leave though, there's room for lots of different opinions on this board.
