BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 He was so dominant yesterday. Looked like peak Chad Green. He was good. Fastball was excellent. But the breaking ball and lack of use of it off the FB wasn’t peak Green. Love to see some more of that pitch. Love to see a Sarris breakdown on his stuff at this point.

Love to see some more of that pitch. Love to see a Sarris breakdown on his stuff at this point. His Stuff+ looks fine but it's not close to what it was in 2021 or 2020. It was 130 and 119 back then, and is only 110 now. His Location+ is 106 right now which is elite, and that is consistent with 2021 and 2020. His 4 seamer does not have the ride it used to. So the shape is worse. Last night I thought it looked like it was cutting a bit. His CB does not have the drop or spin it used to. He hasn't really found this pitch yet.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 It depends on the context For the rest of the regular season when/if they have to use Richards, Garcia, Green, and Cabrera - yeah that group is not pitching great. Since August 1st: Richards 12.75 ERA Cabrera 5.46 xFIP 4.70 FIP Green 7.36 ERA 4.34 xFIP Garcia has not been bad (3.45 ERA) but he is not a shut down reliever of course But if they can avoid those guys... like in a playoff game... they might be comfortable. Since August 1st: Romano 1.38 ERA Mayza 1.32 ERA Francis 1.31 ERA Swanson 1.38 ERA Hicks 2.50 ERA Im fully expecting one of the guys in your first set to be the first guy coming out of the pen in a tight playoff game.

BLARGH I mean at least Green and Yimi are still solid options. Both significantly better than the priors (being 2020 AJ Cole and his 5.20 xFIP). Richards is dead to me though, for leverage ROS Cabrera is almost dead to me. Exception for lefties in specific situations.

Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 I trust Swanson and Mayza in tier 1. Green and Romano in tier 2. Garcia and Francis in tier 3. Hicks and Cabrera in tier 4. Richards...well, you tried.

Sometimes it's messy but his career ERA doesn't lie, at this point.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 People are so stupid about Romano cause sometimes he hangs a slider or ump f***s him over with a borderline call, any time he comes out he is liable to eviscerate any lineup 1-2-3. He is by far our best reliever, a bit behind the truly elite in baseball as a whole, but definitely right below them.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Too bad Danner got hurt like that, he looks like a legit reliever option going forward, would have been nice to see him at the MLB level. Between him and Cooke, the Jays might be able to really start to cull the weaker, less consistent and more expensive relievers they have in an already strong bullpen.
