Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Gausman pitching in Bradenton tomorrow, so televised...
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 (edited) The next date for Vogelbach to opt out of the contract is May 1st... if they indeed give Votto the roster spot as expected they'll give his release when they see fit. Oh right, he can refuse the assignment, guess we'll see shortly. Vogelbach's having a decent spring, I doubt he goes to Buffalo, Lukes for the last spot is inevitable. Vogelbach doesnt have the same opt out choices as Escboar and Votto has since he doesnt have 6 years of service time. He cant refuse an assignment to AAA since he signed a minor league deal. Being a vet though, all he would have to do is ask and theyd probably release him if another team had a spot for him, or he would get traded for cash like Austin Adams did today from the Mets to Oakland. John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Gausman pitching in Bradenton tomorrow, so televised... Good stuff. Didnt read the article but i guess that means they would be able to get him to 80 pitches in his first MLB game without missing any and just have a longer-ish guy lined up to go after him, though Gausman could go 5+ on 80 pitches if he's chucking good that day.
deanmike Verified Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 I wouldn't be shocked to see a Tim Mayza sudden IL placement Ppl saying his velo is way down 3 MPH I read on here, da fuq is that? Dead arm possibly? Yeah, something seems to be going on with Mayza but no one around the team is really talking about it much. I would say Little replaces Mayza if he needs an IL stint, but considering Jays will be starting the season with 11 healthy pitchers plus waiting on Gausman and Romano's minor injuries, more likely Pearson would get that spot and Cabrera is the only LH reliever to start.

Yeah they probably won’t worry about replacing the lefty with a lefty. Still have Cabrera and Richards has reverse splits.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 It's not going to be an issue, man. It's safer anyhow. Gonna disagree here. There's a reason why practically every basestealer slides head first. It's much more challenging for the defensive player to lay down a tag. Regardless, hoping to see a more aggressive Varsho on the bases.

It's much more challenging for the defensive player to lay down a tag. Regardless, hoping to see a more aggressive Varsho on the bases. There's no need to be so fixated about this. It simply appears as though Varsho prefers the foot first slide for whatever reason, whether it's due to past injury or some other factor. I looked to see if time to the base had been studied or not and it appears as though there may actually be a small advantage in the foot first slider reaching the bag first. It was surmised that the hand first slide opens up the player to a higher severity of injury due to potential shoulder, neck and head involvement so this should be factored in as well.

Lets see how things play out. Foot-first slide might be the new meta
deanmike Verified Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Vogelbach makes the team. Jays will have to clear another 40 man spot so they can add both Serven and Vogelbach. Think it could be a Brendon Little DFA considering the Jays optioned him yesterday and no one else.

Thought it would be Lukes over Vogelbach with the 2M salary triggering. Gonna guess Little or Pop get removed from the 40-man.

This is gonna make it harder for Votto to make the team. He's really gonna have to outperform for the Jays to want to throw 2M down the toilet.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 This makes little sense to me, puzzling.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Vogelbach or Votto in 3 weeks.
deanmike Verified Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 From Shi's article yesterday: Adding yet another wrinkle is that the Blue Jays could potentially ask Vogelbach to sign an advanced consent, which for 45 days would allow them to outright him off the 40-man roster without him being able to request a full payout for his release. He’d have to weigh that against other options. I'm not sure what this blurb means exactly, but maybe it's what The DH was referring to?
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 This makes little sense to me, puzzling. Because you don’t know s*** lol. Apologize to everyone that said Vogel would/should make the team
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Yep. It's the only way it makes any degree of sense: From Shi's article yesterday: I'm not sure what this blurb means exactly, but maybe it's what The DH was referring to?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Things that make me scratch my head: I'm guessing Vogelbach gave up the full guarantee on his contract. I don't think a player can give up a guaranteed salary. I know they can forfeit a guaranteed salary if they refuse assignment to the minors and choose to become a free agent, but I don't think a minor league signing who gets 2 million guaranteed if he makes the club can then agree to have that 2 million "unguaranteed". That kind of situation would create extremely obvious ways to exploit players by clubs. THe blurb in Davidi's article just means they have 2 choices... add him to the 40 man and he gets his 2 million guaranteed, or dont add him and he goes to AAA on his minor league salary. There's no third option to add him to the 40 man with an unguaranteed salary. They just punted 2.75 million by trading Espinal so the 2 million for Vogelbach and possibly up to 4 million for Votto, is really just a net cost of up to 3.25 million over the whole season. If Votto's incentives don't trigger, it's 1.25 net. Not a big deal cost wise.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Because you don’t know s*** lol. Apologize to everyone that said Vogel would/should make the team Why? It's f***ing dumn.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 They must plan on Turner playing the field a lot
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 I would have just had Horowitz in that Vogelbach spot/role and used that time to 1) see if Horowitz was any good in a bench/platoon role, and 2) kill some time before Votto is ready.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 They must plan on Turner playing the field a lot Has he even played a single inning in the field this spring?
wamco Verified Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 It doesn’t matter! The narrative is Turner playing a bunch in the field despite it making no rational sense
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Has he even played a single inning in the field this spring? Idk I’ve barely paid attention to the spring games. I was just basing it off Vogelbach making the team because I know he can’t play the field.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Has he even played a single inning in the field this spring? Yes: starts at 1b and 3b.
