wamco Verified Member Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 You could speculate all you want that Chapman wouldn't tell the Jays that because he would lose leverage and all that - but you can't exclude the possibility that someone acted as a respectable human - instead of trying to squeeze every dollar possible out of the system. - sounds like a boras repped player to me..
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 Zach Pop is 6'4" 220 lbs. Sounds lanky to me. Not that bad.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 Sounds lanky to me. You need to go see what a 6'4 220 pounder looks like then lol
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 I know it is only spring training. But please rock that little s*** Stroman today and every-time we face him subsequently. Danny burgers gonna hit one over 420ft to start a race war
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 that's the big off season splash we were looking for
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 no way !! nostalgia !! Pretty cool.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 I mean.. Olney so... grain of salt, but it's probably true since Shulman just mentioned it on the broadcast. Its a classy gesture to see if there's anything left in the tank, but there's also those Jersey sales i'm sure they're hoping for.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 Well I’m 5’11” 240lbs with an 800lb squat. I’m not worried about Zach Pop. You plan on facing him in an mlb game and charging the mound?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 You plan on facing him in an mlb game and charging the mound? I'm 6'6" and split squat 7000 pounds... as a warmup. So .... the e-warrior up there doesn't scare anyone.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 Well I’m 5’11” 240lbs with an 800lb squat. I’m not worried about Zach Pop. That makes you a massive guy then. It doesn't take anything away from Pop being a solid build.

Professional athlete Zach Pop would throw a 90 mph haymaker at your round fat head and would damn near knock it off what I can only assume is a set of shoulders (I'm assuming you have no neck).

Not if i was in the box, I'd catch the ball in my teeth since my jaw is so strong and manly, spit the ball back at him and tell him to throw it again.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 So he's like Tony Gwynn only he can play SS?
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 I don't see why media folks are acting like Clement might not make the team. Espinal optioned. Schneider 2B most days. Bench of: Jansen/Kirk Clement Biggio Vogelbach/Votto Seems very obviously to be the proper roster construction

I like Clement as a bench guy, i think the only way he doesn't make the team is if some other team comes knocking and offers a deal that cant be turned down. No idea what that deal would be... but if he gets DFA he's definitely getting claimed and traded either way. As for the bat, he's basically Bichette with far less power threat. Like Bichette-lite-lite. He'll ride the babip roller coaster
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 Clement might have an underrated crack at being the primary 3B, if IKF falters. ZiPS: Clement, 1.4 WAR in 361 PA IKF, 0.7 WAR in 480 PA (probably has his defense underrated) Espinal, 1.3 WAR in 357 PA Steamer600 Espinal, 1.9 war IKF, 1.6 war Clement, 1.5 war He truly has as good a shot as anyone. And he is the only one of the three with a legit up arrow, by that I mean he looked better recently and there may be reason to believe he made positive changes to his game in 2023 that will help him overperform projections. IKF = the defensive specialist play Clement = the offensive sleeper play Espinal = the uhhhhhhh he was an all star two years ago play

My guess is the org views Espinal like a pseudo-vet even though he has options, as an arb player making 7 figures. Under Shatkins FO Jays have rarely optioned fringe guys like Espinal if they are arb players making a 7 figure salary. I guess since Pearson's arb salary is only 60k higher than league minimum it doesn't count?

wamco Verified Member Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 I’d prefer to swap out vogelbach for a bat first OF, preferably one that can maul LHP.
wamco Verified Member Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 Votto is a long term play, ready to take over after vlad contract runs out

Bench of: Jansen/Kirk Clement Biggio Vogelbach/Votto Seems very obviously to be the proper roster construction Then in AAA we have various 1.5 WAR options like Espinal, Horwitz, and Lukes. To go with AAA prospects ranging from 50 FV (Orelvis) to 45 FV (Barger, Jimenez) to 40 FV (Horwitz, Roden, Parmesani). Pretty decent depth.
deanmike Verified Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Maybe the Espinal for Austin Slater trade base that's been rumoured all offseason still ends up happening, but the Jays and/or Giants are waiting until the end of ST to pull the trigger just in case injuries open up a need to keep the player around. Getting Slater for Espinal would solve the Vogelbach/Clement/Espinal/Schneider bench crunch because Espinal being gone would free the Jays of having to give him pseudo-vet treatment because he's a 7 figure salary arb player, and then Schneider can start the season in Buffalo (not that I think he deserves to, just seems to be heading that way) while Slater is the lefty mashing 4th OF. C Jansen/Kirk 1B Vlad 2B Biggio/Clement 3B IKF/Clement/Turner (1-2 days a week per the team) SS Bichette LF Varsho/Slater CF Kiermaier/Varsho RF Springer DH Turner/Vogelbach

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 No Votto and no Schneider...that roster is going to get an F from me Dean That and there's been 0 trade rumours involving Slater and Espinal other than random Jays bloggers making up trade targets
deanmike Verified Member Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 No Votto and no Schneider...that roster is going to get an F from me Dean Your critique is going to get an F from me as well Sherminator. If it were up to me, Schneider would obviously make the team. And Votto fully said he's starting the season in Buffalo so not sure how Votto even factored into my grade when I posted a mock start-of-season roster.
