I still kind of think JD Davis makes sense. They'd have to jettison Espinal, but that's fine. Get him out of SF and he'll run unto 20 dingers and a wRC+ over 105. Neither him nor IKF have a platoon split, but they might have different splits vs. different pitcher types or something. Davis starting 4- times a week at 3B with IKF getting the other 2-3 and then coming in as a defensive replacement if the team has the lead might be the best way to squeeze value out of 3B.

Yeah - JD Davis still interests me. If you could get him for Espy, I'd do that in a heartbeat. The more options we have of guys who could have "good" offensive seasons the better. He very well could run into a 120 wRC+ season. That said, I wouldn't be eager to move Garcia for him.

On the contrary, I can actually assure YOU that if Biggio was still viewed as having double corner OF utility in the eyes of the organization, he should have taken some PAs away from Whit there, considering Whit only had 1 month above 100 wRC+ after April (88 wRC+ total from May to the end of the season), while Biggio rocked a 117 wRC+ during that same timespan.

Biggio also had 0.4 more fWAR than Whit during this timespan in 218 less PAs

Biggio told them he couldn't read the ball corectly in LF, it's the reason they switched it up.

IKF will be better than Chapman in every way in 2024, other than HR/RBI count.

AVG - IKF

OBP - IKF

SPEED - IKF

DEFENSE - IKF

WAR - IKF

wOBA - IKF

lol... that's BOLD, mate.

There were like 2 3bs who signed for more than 1/2m.

If there were no suitors for Chapman then I don't know how there would be suitors willing to start IKF at 3b.

Even if you expand it to infielders who are generously projected for 1 war, they all signed for like 1/5. Anderson, Kike, Urshela 1mill, Rosario 1mil.

Percentage wise it's probably an astronomical overpay. Total dollars wise whatever I guess.

But its still a problem that we're one of the teams that pays $/war for 1 war players when the smart teams don't. So that kinda means Atkins is dumber than the smart teams.

IKF reported that there was actually a ton of competition for his services, so in essence the Blue Jays paid market rate for this specific player based on market conditions at the time. If they didn't give him the type of contract he received there were plenty of other teams lined up to sign him other than just the Blue Jays.

Wonder if Whit and Shatkins still talk to each other.

Add him and Chapman to the list of all Alpha players that hated their guts. Gonna take a few years for them to move past this like most of the 2015/2016 roster lol.

WTF now slap hitter Whit Merrifield is somehow an alpha player in your view? JFC.

It is.

But …let’s say for for a second that Chappy did think the stadium changes were responsible for his poor numbers. How does he think they’re going to be any better in SF where hitters go to die?

I've already mentioned Oracle Park this morning, makes no sense, well, other than it being his hometown. Oh well...:P

Its just an excuse to make himself feel better. He can’t come to grips with the reality that he f***ed up his walk year with an abysmal 4 months to end the season. So he blames it on something out of his control.

We’ll see if the park suppresses homeruns as much in 2024, because what he’s saying does have some truth to it. Hard to tell if its a statistical anomaly or not.

Are you serious Dean? Double corner OF utility? Lol you even hit me with a capital "YOU"!

If a bench player can play RF he can also play LF. It's a simple concept Dean.

Now the team probably does put some stock into a player's individual preference because the difference in value between the two positions is small. But your argument regarding Whit disproves your point because it shows the a previous LF roadblock is no longer with the team, thus clearing the way for more time in LF for Biggio if it comes to it.

Biggio had more time at SS last season than LF, just stop Sherm lmao

Also regarding Whit, he was viewed by the team as only having LF utility despite playing a lot of RF previously. There were some lineups while Whit was here where it looked like they were outright avoiding using him in RF. During his entire time as a Blue Jay, Whit only had 30 total PAs there despite that being his 2nd most common field position as a Royal. During his entire time in KC Whit only started 24 games in LF, and as a Blue Jay started 69 games in LF.

Basically what I'm getting at is, Jays seem to be keeping RF guys away from LF and LF guys away from RF.

I'm pretty sure most people on here have already made up their minds. Atkins mis-read the market AGAIN, learned nothing from the Morales/EE situation and is a moron. As I said before - easy to sit back and rip on Atkins when you know very little about the factors.

How do you manage to type with Atkins' dick in your mouth all the time?

NM, I found something. He hit about 30 points better on the road. SO I guess he was somewhat correct. I always liked the Crash Davis view of streaks and such. Basically if you think you can't hit well in Toronto then you won't.

I remember the team saying Biggio didn't feel comfortable in LF so he would get his outfield time in RF. The best way to split time at 2b (the preferred position for each of Biggio and Whit) was for one to be 2b-LF and the other 2b-RF. It works I guess.

Hurl told me about the KK and IKF signings way before they signed, from term to exact money, friendo.

Is Hurl KingSarcasm?
