Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 Mr Passive Aggressive You have a problem with that?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 2, 3 and 4 hitters today are Kirk, Vogelbach and Schneider. Probably not gonna see many hit and "run" attempts up there. More like hoping for single, walk, Bomb
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 I like that they're giving Schneider alot of reps so far so good including a diving catch near the line in LF - I think he's made 2 errors this spring - I only saw the one on a lazy fly ball to shallow right that went off the heel of his glove. His AB's have been pretty good, sometimes chases the high heat but he seems to be able to adjust and work the count. His chase rate was 19% in 2023, that's Juan Soto territory
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 The Blue Jays are purely nostalgia for me these days. The team annoys me sometimes but I think back to being a 12 and 13 year old kid obsessed with baseball watching them win the World Series two years in a row. Then the strike happened in 1994 and I stopped watching for many years. You quit watching baseball at age 14 because of the strike?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 You quit watching baseball at age 14 because of the strike? Short attention spans when you're young. Something like that happens you move on to whats on TV
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 You quit watching baseball at age 14 because of the strike? Do you only ever have one way of thinking? I would assume at 14yo, rather than a matter of a moral stance, the break just caused baseball to drop off his radar for a bit even when it came back.

JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 English is difficult eh? Makes you feel better now? Showing how superior you are from your pedestal. People like you make me sick. tu es un trou cul
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 This is exactly it. I focused my time on playing guitar and started playing in bands, then when baseball came back I was too busy with music and girls. lol what a LOSER playing guitar and chasing chicks in his teenage years instead of watching 3.5 hour blue jays games

bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 lmao what in the actual f*** is going on in here? Atkins "MO" is to have one of the worst offenses in MLB? Really? Since when for f*** sakes? Last year was there worst year offensively since the "window" opened in the Atkins rebuild and they were still top half of the league in offense. Some knucklehead predicting the Jays will have one of the worst offenses in the league after a few ST games? Again..are you f***ing kidding me? There are 6 or 7 teams projected to have better offensive fWAR than the Jays this year. We'll see how it shakes out, but one of the worst in the league?? Come on man, step back from the ledge. Yes the point of the forum is to discuss the Jays and baseball, but holy s*** do we really have to complain about the same s*** over and over and over and over again and again and again before they've even played a regular season game? Let's at least wait to see if they actually suck before complaining ad nauseum about how much they suck. I mean, another year of regression/injuries for springer, Vlad being similar to last year, Turner old, Schneider is a nobody, and steady abs for Espinal/ikf/biggio. would it be that surprising we end up having at least a below average offense
FireAtkinsisamust Verified Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 I won’t be surprised if we finish 4th in our division

I still can't wrap my head around the direction Atkins went this offseason, but a below average offense would be a surprise. There's a lot of ugly looking lineups out there man and the Jays had a 107 WRC+ last year (tied for 7th in the league).

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 I was 14. Playing guitar got me more girls than staying home watching Blue Jays games ever would. lol 10-4. I just found it odd to go from "obsessed" to not watching for several years. I get it though - things change. I was a bit curious if you took some moral stance (which I thought would have been a bit odd for a 14 year old). Thanks for clarifying.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Makes you feel better now? Showing how superior you are from your pedestal. People like you make me sick. tu es un trou cul Yeah - that's fair. People make mistakes. Sorry tazsub3.

Its interesting though... all the predictions around here for regression only seem to apply to the Jays. Other teams players only seem to get projected to get better. Gotta love fans

Gotta love fans Yeah, like people keep saying “oh the orioles will be better this year because their players have another year of experience” We were saying that with Vlad/Bo a couple years ago and it didn’t turn out that way. Seems like the team has been getting worse each year, not better. Still have no idea if we should expect 2 WAR or 5 WAR from Vladdy. Not sure why everyone here seems to think Springer is finished. That Varsho and Kirk won’t hit again like they did in the past. That the rotation will suddenly fall apart this year.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Under 27 years old = get better Over 29 years old = get worse In the middle = sideways (or pure statistical regression) Some exception for veteran SP who tend to just be good until they get hurt or their velo dips below a certain point
deanmike Verified Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 (edited) KingSarcasm just provided clarity through his source, on why Chapman didn't come back. He claimed to know all offseason that Chapman wasn't coming back, but wouldn't specify why until now. This still doesn't change the fact that the 2nd threshold budget coming from ownership is real (barring a special case which Chapman wasn't), and the Jays are projected to be 6.3M under it and Chapman's AAV is 18M. Even if Chapman was open to coming back at this stage in the offseason, they still almost certainly wouldn't have been able to do it according to multiple Rogers shills like Shi/BNS/Zwelling. However, it seems Chapman's mindset was "I would prefer to call almost any ballpark home over the new Rogers Centre." Edited March 4, 2024 by deanmike
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Yes but then he signed with SF, not the Reds or Rockies
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 That tracks with the opinion he wasn't coming back and the Jays knew it from the y get go.

"Toronto jumped the gun and then did not have room in the budget to afford him" is ********, if you believe this tweet. "Toronto was told they were out so they spent money elsewhere" is more correct.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Yes but then he signed with SF, not the Reds or Rockies Yeah if the tweet is true then he is an idiot. If there are like, three teams who might want you and want to pay for you, it's so dumb to rule one of them out. He can blame himself for the pillow contract. And what hitter takes a pillow contract in San Francisco...
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Yes but then he signed with SF, not the Reds or Rockies Seems obvious that Chapman and his famous agent where the ones who mis-read the market and were stuck signing a pillow deal in SF.

I'm pretty sure most people on here have already made up their minds. Atkins mis-read the market AGAIN, learned nothing from the Morales/EE situation and is a moron. As I said before - easy to sit back and rip on Atkins when you know very little about the factors.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 I'm still trying to figure out how the RC changes caused him to hit 400 ft flyouts to CF all year. The new dimensions caused sufficient wind changes that he could no longer pull the ball due to the wind resistance slowing down his bat speed?
