Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 It would be lovely if Jansen stayed healthy though. Are you a 90 yr old great grandma, Jonn
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 Please just be 2 years. I'm fine with a multi-year deal if the AAV isn't massive. He's got legit upside.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 I'm fine with a multi-year deal if the AAV isn't massive. He's got legit upside. Risky, me thinks. If it's 3/36 as you mentioned, I'd be okay with that I guess. Add Ryu and I'm happy!
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 Are you a 90 yr old great grandma, Jonn You don’t like the word lovely? Well good golly gumdrops.

Yeah that number is fine. Hell we gave that to a 40 year old Kendrys Morales. If its more like 3/45 then it starts getting fuglier
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 If IFK got a 2 year deal, you bet your ass Soler will get a 3 year deal lol.

As much as I'd love Ryu on a cheap 1 year deal, signing him pretty much signals Manoah will be in AAA no matter what no? That'd give us 5 guys under major league deals so for that reason, I think we'd use that money on a bullpen arm instead.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 I will buy the Vlad and Bo predictions. Not so much the rest. It would be lovely if Jansen stayed healthy though. Springer turns back the clock - We had a lot of guys struggle last year, easy to see a return to a >130wRC+. His season total was really brought down by a couple brutal months. Schneider 30 HR - Hit 8 in 35 games. He was on a 37/162 pace. This includes his cold streak. IKF gold glove - Has already won one. Jansen stays healthy - He needs some luck and more body armour. Kirk mashes - Not sure what he means by mashes. But he’s got a good bat. Always the chance he’s turned some of his fat into muscle this off-season. Varsho goes 30/20 - Hit 27/16 already and is just entering his prime. Do I think all of this will happen? Nope.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 Atkins did say prob 1-2 more players and a DH is an obvious hole. Not really groundbreaking stuff I think majority of the posters on here have said the same thing. Not groundbreaking top secret stuff like this Andrew Havok thinks it is.
deanmike Verified Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 Don't be surprised when it's 1 instead of 2, is basically what KingSarcasm is getting at. Weird that his source info is being scrutinized now, because originally when Atkins said "closer to 1 than 3" everyone here was convinced that he was just posturing for leverage and there wouldn't actually be only 1 more position player add to the 26 man roster.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 I'm thinking Soler gets around 2/33 I think the guarantee would come in around that total, but included in that would be a buyout or club option for year three. So two years at $15M with a club option for a third year at $13M or $3M buyout.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 Ryus so nasty with that slow curve and like 4-5 pitches plus command
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 I'm fine with a multi-year deal if the AAV isn't massive. He's got legit upside. Yeah in this FA market it’s either Soler or Joc as the best DH fits, IMO. Soler can probably be league average-ish against RHP while mashing lefties so he won’t need to be platooned, while Joc would have to be, so maybe that’s a consideration here. There’s no perfect answer in the FA market but Soler is probably the best combination power + upside. The Jays badly need power in the lineup.

I'd kind of prefer Joc here as he would have a lot more opportunities to enjoy the platoon advantage vs Soler. The Jays have plenty of right handed options on the roster to deploy against left handed pitching in the DH slot (Vlad, Kirk, Springer, Schneider etc.).
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 Would prefer Joc for 1 year over Soler for 3 years But I'll take anybody. Hoskins, JDM, also good...

Bullpen's fine, and in that scenario Manoah has options and has to show he's back, Blue Jays don't owe that dude f*** all.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 If Teo didn't get the 3 years, I highly doubt Soler will to be honest. Yeah I think each offers similar offensive upside with the bat except Teo has been more consistent and can actually play the outfield regularly.

More depth options would be nice but I don't know if the club would want to necessarily block Manoah in AAA either. Yariel Rodriguez is still out there and the team apparently liked him as a multi inning reliever/swing man type so that would be nice insurance against the scenario where Manoah continues to struggle.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 Yeah I'd do Manoah for Jorge Polanco straight up ez win
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 The prospect of watching a slightly worse offensive team next year has me queasy. What a disaster free agency class this has turned out to be.
deanmike Verified Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 I heavily doubt JDM or Hoskins are options for the Jays. Steamer600 projects JDM at a measly 0.5 fWAR, and Jays simply don't value guys like this. Soler/Joc/Hoskins are all projected between 1.7-1.8 fWAR but there's been nothing linking the Jays to Hoskins, plus they want their DH add to have OF versatility. Soler and Joc have both been heavily linked to the Jays, with respectable Steamer600 projections and both have at least some level of OF versatility. Jays probably end up with one of them.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 Yeah I think us or Boston will get Soler, that green monster might look good to him. If we miss out there are many options to play with.
Rimar Verified Member Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 I prefer Soler , coz he have more power. Ideally we should get Soler + Bellinger. Ofc this won't happen, because Atkins think we don't need guys who can hit 25-30 HR. Run prevention better😅 So far we didn't replaced Ryu, Hicks, Chapman, Siemens, Hernandez, and didn't improved roster. Arguably, we can say we replaced Gurriel with Varsho, and Merrifield with IKF but the bullpen no better than in 2023 and we really lack power. Biggio, Espinal, Schneider, KK are only bench players.

BNS from Sportsnet thinks they will add Joc and the cheapest RHH bat so they can platoon them. Joc is completely hopeless vs LHP. Interesting theory. We will know soon enough.
