what proof do you have that he's uncoachable? it might be the opposite and he's listened and tried to adjust to whatever they are telling him and it's not working

It’s anecdotal of course but, when he makes the exact same basic baserunning errors repeatedly, there’s only 2 real scenarios. Either he’s being instructed properly and keeps making the mistakes anyways…which would indicate he’s uncoachable…or he’s not being instructed at all. I find it hard to believe it’s the latter.

Now, there could be a sit auction where the term uncoachable means one thing to one person and one thing to another. Some take it as a guy who refuses to listen to coaches because he thinks he knows better, others see it as someone who absolutely listens but then forgets anything because he’s a bone head. I don’t think it’s the former in Vlads case.

Okay, chances are this season is over. What should the FO do for 2024?

I think a long term deal with Vladdy makes sense. Do it when he sucks. He should bounce back.

I would try to retain Chapman. $22M AAV, 5-years?

I would try to re-sign Ryu.

Things are looking up for the grim reaper thread.

In my head we've been getting him for 3B every year except last year when we had Chapman to start the season. But yeah it will probably never happen LOL

In all seriousness, if the Jays sign Ohtani, could the team live with an internal option playing 3B? Assuming the money isn't endless?

If the Jays played Orelvis all year at 3B, what do you think his fWAR would/could end up being? How about Palmegiani? Is it possible for a prospect like one of these guys to hit > 2 fWAR their first year? That would free up cash to be spent elsewhere.

If Jays signed Ohtani I'd be alright with them cheaping out at the other postions.

A combo of Schneider, Horwitz, Biggio, Palmegiani, Barger, Orelvis at 2B/3B/LF. Plus all the others Lukes, Clement, etc.

Wouldn't mind bringing back Josh Donaldson at 3B to share time with some of the younger guys if the Jays can't bring in anyone better. If he gets around 250-300 ABs as a part-time 3B and DH/bench option, not bad. I think his personality would be a perfect fit for this clubhouse. Think he could definitely make a positive impact in that respect.

Just was a suggestion if the Jays decide not to target one of the top 3B available in free agency or trade for someone. So yeah obviously he's not my first choice but if the Jays decide to roll with someone like Barger/Schneider/Biggio at 3B, Donaldson wouldn't be a bad option to bring in on a cheap deal as insurance or to split playing time with.

The Jays clubhouse actually could benefit having a player like Josh Donaldson around.

I'm not so sure that's true. It's one thing to bring that cocky, larger than life attitude into the clubhouse when you're an MVP candidate. Tough to bring that in when you hit .160 now and miss half the games. If he still has that attitude, he'll look like a douchebag loser. Best you could hope for is he turns into David Justine after Billy Beane sets him straight. Who knows if JD can be that guy.

I have to think there are 10+ options I'd consider before JD. I don't think there's a high probability he has a dead cat bounce left in him.

Not saying for him to act all cocky like he was in 2015 and 2016 during his MVP days. His toughness and experience definitely could help and rub off on some of the other players here. As well, he was always a fan favourite in Toronto. There is no risk in signing him to a cheap one-year contract as a bench guy to split time with someone like Barger or Biggio if the Jays decide to go that route and can't get anyone better.

He made $25M last year. I guess it will be interesting to see if he still wants to play for like $3M a year

He signed that contract with the Minnesota Twins after the 2019 season.

Yeah he either retires or he signs a cheap one-year contract to play part-time somewhere, similar to Evan Longoria last offseason.

Dunno how you guys could want JD after seeing him play a bit in 2023.

If dumpster diving for a 3B stop gap I'd honestly rather have Jean Segura or IKF or someone like that

It’s November, too early to consider wasting a 40 man spot on a washed up JD

Didn't I say only if the Jays can't bring in one of the top 3B available in free agency or via trade? I never suggested the Jays go out and sign JD right at this moment. Obviously no team is signing Josh Donaldson in November.

He's another option if he came on a cheap one-year contract. Can't believe he hit 35 HR's in 2019.

JD is not tough, lol.

Dude misses half the season every year with a calf ache.

Yeah I'm not overly convinced he's that mentally tough either. Or at least I don't know how some people decide that certain players are mentally tough. Perhaps in JD's case because he educated himself and changed his swing - allowing him to be a late bloomer?

He used to yell at the other team and grab his nuts and stuff.

Also his daddy went out for a smoke and never came back and went to prison and stuff. So JD grew up hard.

But he's still f***ing ten ply and made of toilet paper.

How much is Mitch Garver going to get? How much compared to JD Martinez?

JDM 1 year deal

Garver 3 year deal?
