I think it would be cool to have Teo back and he won’t cost as much.

Rooker rumour intrigued me. He comes with a lot of control.

I wouldn't mind Teo back as long as he never gets in the outfield. Don't trust John Schneider enough to do it though.

Tommy Pham everybody.

Not sure why "Sixto" pointed out that Pham was 35 years old. How old does the dude think MILFS are? 35 and milfs...the math works.

There's no guarantee Scherzer would even be a pitcher you wasn't starting in the post season based on his performance this season. The worst case scenario would be Scherzer suffering injury and missing most of the remainder of the season and getting no return on the investment.

That's pretty much exactly what I said dude. Going off the assumption he continues to pitch, he's pretty much a #3/4 on the Jays roster doing what he's done this season so far, if he finds his old form he's a potential ace who could start game 1 in any playoff series.

Of course the worst case is him getting injured, but that's true of any player acquired by any team.

Positive takes aren't sexy for some odd reason on here.

I've praised Atkins on a lot of his big FA signings like Springer, Ryu, and Gausman and his big trades like for Berrios and Chapman. Go back and look it up.

Springer hasn't been Spinger this season and sucks Ryu got injured but it showed the baseball world the Jays were willing to spend and make big moves to better the club.

My issue with Atkins is it seems he completely ignores the end of the roster in terms of the bench, depth and bullpen. And it shows over the past three seasons. This bullpen still lacks an elite setup guy to Romano (lets hope Green can be that guy). As well wasting ABs on players like Tapia or innings on pitchers like Hand, White etc. I could go on.

Not at all. Go look up my previous posts on where I've praised Atkins and the big moves he's made.

Sometimes he does overpay for some veterans or players and giving them more years than he should e.g. Grichuk, Morales, Roark, Bassitt etc. Otherwise, my complaints with him has been his inability to finish off the roster every season in terms of the bullpen, bench and roster depth.

Then stop whining!

I'm not whining, I was having a laugh with Laika, for some reason you're taking it personally, also, this was your post this morning, the rubber fence effect, lol.

You can build cheap bullpens every offseason by finding guys coming back from injury or who had a down year. Or looking in-house. Relievers are volatile. Its alright to have turnover with middle relief arms.

Anyone think Hader might be available from the Padres or is Preller still irrationally holding out hope for a wildcard?

Tim Anderson? Man he not a good fielder, and his bat has been hopeless this year. I don't know why he is even being talked about, if he is.

A negative WAR player this year with a 56 wRC+. Someone might want him for cheap looking for a dead cat bounce.

Semien, Belt, Merrifield, Ray, Stripling, Matz, etc. I don’t think Anderson is a fit for the 2023 team but could definitely see Atkins getting him hoping for that bounce back. Trollosi mentioned the Jays interest so it’s probably clickbait anyway.

I dont see any reason to seek out paying 14 million dollars for a dead cat bounce situation. We can get the same kind of hope from Espinal for peanuts.

11:53am: The Sox and Rays are indeed discussing Lynn, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times tweets, but a deal between the two parties is not yet seen as imminent. The Rays have interest in a number of starters and are in active talks on multiple starting pitchers.

Not unless the White Sox eat a lot of that contract...

Anderson had a 123 wRC+ from 2019-22 (1641 PA’s). It’s possible this is the beginning of a decline for him as a good player but the upside between him and Espinal is night and day. Atkins gave $18m to Semien and $9m to Belt, the latter being closer to Anderson’s situation (Belt was s*** in 2022 while Semien was a victim of small sample size in 2020). I’m not saying I want Anderson, all I’m saying is I think Atkins would probably do something like that if it made sense.

Well sure the upside is higher with Anderson, but ... with that money on there, it's too much to pay for hoping for the bounce back. As Brownie pointed out, if the white sox ate a sizeable portion of the deal and got it down to around 5 million or so... I can see that being somewhat worth it, but at that point I think i'd rather see what Barger or Schneifer have to offer.

Trent Thornton to Seattle for Mason McCoy

McCoy must be good at defense or something because his bat is hot garbage. He plays almost all of his games at SS so it probably is at least decent. Doesn't need to be added to the 40-man.

Mariners To Acquire Trent Thornton From Blue Jays

July 26th, 2023 at 1:31pm CST • By Darragh McDonald

The Mariners are acquiring right-hander Trent Thornton from the Blue Jays, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN. Thornton was designated for assignment last week when the Jays acquired Genesis Cabrera. The Mariners are sending infielder Mason McCoy to the Jays in exchange.

I'm just glad Thornton is irreversibly gone TBH

AAA fodder for whe Ross Atkin clears out the infield

Yeah that makes sense. We are probably going to trade one or two of these AAA infielders.

Meh... 28 year old Org-filler. Best they could get I guess, lol.

Thornton was 29 year old org filler. By my count we just gained 1 year. Clear win by Atkins

Now lets trade Mitch White before he f***s up more games

What would a return for White even be? I wouldnt even fill a team's Coke machine for the rest of the season for him.

Mitch White DFA should have been announced today. Apparently they learned nothing from last night.

Hed be a throw in for a team that likes his pitch shapes and attributes and the years of control he offers.

But those teams would probably just ask for like Bowden Francis or Zulu or Danner first.
