Masterbather Verified Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Could've been a better slide attempt by Bo despite how wrong that all went.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 For all the criticism of Varsho, Varsho is not out on that play, nor is KK. They are both damn good base runners.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 For all the criticism of Varsho, Varsho is not out on that play, nor is KK. They are both damn good base runners. True. Yes they are. But it’s ok criticize a player with an 88 wRC+ and 1 WAR when we simply need more from him.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Bo wasn't even looking at the 3B coach lmao Crazy how guys get to this level without knowing to watch the base coach
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Was Bo sent or no? He was initially being waved home and then got the late one handed stop sign after he rounded 3rd. Horrendous coach is to blame

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Can we get a wellness check on Grant please? 0-6 vs the Red Sox this year. You ok buddy?

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Bo running through that late stop sign can't happen to end a game, both are idiots. John Schneider saying no-one is to blame irked me, he should've said that simply can't happen at this level. Ughh...
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 3-3 even would make the team look way better On to the next. Feeling we have a large outburst of runs coming soon
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Holy f*** people.. Rivera was initially waving him before putting up a very late stop sign. My problem is that Rivera has a tendency of waving a runner initially like an excited school girl in gym class before he even makes a proper assessment of the play. He needs to not make any decisions until the runner is about to round the bag and be more decisive and demonstrative. I wish we still had Butterfield.

I think Bo tried to slow down/stop and realized he was well past halfway to home already. He almost certainly would have been a dead duck at third much like he was at home so it's a pick your poison scenario at that point.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Jays are not playing like a championship team, I expect much better from them. Lets hope they make some serious adjustments.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 7-19 vs AL east 38-20 vs the rest Just noise. If the numbers were reversed, wouldn't make a difference, no?

You can’t throw up the stop sign halfway down the baseline. And even if Bo never stopped running he’s still out by 10 feet at least.

When coming from 2nd you would always wave someone unless you know 100% they are going to stop at 3b. You wave them so they make the turn. Then the 3b coach needs to set up down far enough down the line so that the runner can see them once they make the turn and know to stop or go. We were literally just working on this on my son’s little league team a month or so ago. Both first base and third. The three plays and signs by the coach are run straight through the base then turn in so you are out of play. Make a turn towards 2b and depending on situation go to 2b or come back to the bag at 1b. The coach is supposed to be giving signs and verbal commands. We tell the kids every drill. Pick up your base coaches, stop looking at the ball, especially on infield hits. Pick up your base coaches!!!! I can’t tell from the video where Rivera put up the stop sign. However, it would be normal to windmill so he makes the turn at 3b and then heads down the line a little vs sliding into 3b just stopping on the bag. Once Bo makes the turn he needs to pick up the coach also, who should be down the line in front of him.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 One positive thing to take away from this game is the fact that they didn't lay down like we're so accustomed to seeing, salvage today's game and sweep the next two easy match ups and its not such a bleak all star break.

Really really really want a win today to get back on track
