Haha pinch hit for Varsho just so you can let Espy bat with the game on the line. Having that little faith in who was supposed to be our franchise CF of the future is hilarious.

I still think Varsho has a much better AB than Espinal does and you could have used Kirk for Biggio.

We need someone who can hit Lefties off the bench.

HR's on either side is the problem. I'm just showing the wRC+ and WAR #'s.

100%. But that’s a big big issue. So is using Yimi over sit down innings. 87 centre cut to LHH.

Agreed. Certainly while he's on a heater.

Espinal's pool noodle bat is our last resort. Fvck what a season.

Lol. I know. That was depressing. Feeling of overwhelming impending doom.

I'm just trying to make sense of it myself, lol.

Guys, I don't know, I may have to take a break from this team. I'm heading to Chicago to catch the Jays the first week of July. If we lose that series, I'm not coming back.:(

So we trade two good pieces for a midget-size lefty whiff machine who has to have a pumpkin-shaped catcher hit for him. Then with the game on the line, our best choice for the next AB is Espinal.

dafuq outta here Shatkins.

I just bought tickets to head to Toronto from Calgary with my son and bro for the Jose level of excellence weekend. I am half thinking of cancelling. But I won’t lol.

When a guy is hot, f*** the left/righty stuff, especially when you need that PH for a Biggio type later on.

Better? lol

Was just listening to the Rangers post game show. They were eviscerating the decision to send Vlad home on Adolis Garcia. The dude has 10 assists, second closest in MLB is 6. Basically, they were like WTF!???

I had no problem with the pinch hitting decisions, but our offense is so broken.

Looking at small picture only pinch hitting Kirk for Varsho is excusable, but when you look at the big picture and see that Espinal is going to receive an at bat and Varsho does not the decision makes a lot less sense.

Yeah that was a terrible send as that dude has an absolute cannon.

Shapiro wants informed decisions, which by his definition is based on data, not gut based subjective ones, and he had to change the culture in Toronto to be receptive to "collaboration", which really means implementing decisions based on data from the top down to the manger. Shapiro interview in 2019 "I've seen a massive evolution in the game of baseball in the way we make decisions in particular—from really anecdotal, gut-based decision making based upon subjective information to highly data-driven, informed decision. In Toronto we have had to build out the resources that create the inputs for decision making on both the baseball and the business side and models that provide the structure for weighting and utilizing the improved information. As importantly, we have had to transform a culture into one that is receptive to and embraces informed decision making, at the heart of which is the essential acceptance of collaboration in all of our efforts. So, that's been a big undertaking, but I was excited about it."

Not knocking data, but there are times the manager needs to have the independence to make game time decisions based on instinct and gut.

I don’t know what’s wrong with Rivera’s head, he’s had some dumb sends in the past but that one is probably the dumbest yet.

Idk how this guy still has the 3B coach job. Maybe he’s great at infield drills or something so sure keep him on the coaching staff, but his base coaching has been consistently awful for at least 5+ seasons now. We need someone else there.

A lot of the coaching staff seems very mediocre but they’re all entrenched in their positions for some unknown reason.

Caleb Joseph is trying to pin this on Vlad based on a poor secondary lead and wide turn around third base, but I put that fully on Rivera with a bad send. He should know Vlad isn't a great baserunner and has below average speed, and this was against a right fielder with 95th percentile arm strength. Given Vlad's girth I would surmise that this is a typical third base turn for him given the centrifugal force involved.

Garcia leads all MLB outfielders in assists over the last 3 seasons, so this is categorically NOT a player you want to be running on. This was just a mind bogglingly bad send, even for a coach who has a reputation for bad sends over the years. The only possible defence I can come up with for Rivera is the high likelihood that Vlad would have ran through the stop sign anyway, but he has to at least try to stop him there.

there were two players involved in this play - Vlad and Garcia.

Rivera misjudged both of them at the same time. It was truly spectacularly bad.
