Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Literally nobody in the minors right now that could help us. Bowden Francis just got back from injury. He probably needs another week at least but I think he's probably next up.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Some s***** defense has made Manoah look worse than he is today. And again, Chappy has to catch that. Woof!

Laika Community Moderator Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 just f***ing demote him call up Kloffenstein
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Manoah has to go down. They have to pull the plug at this point. They just cannot keep him up when he's pitching like this.
TorontonianJD Verified Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 And again, Chappy has to catch that. Woof! I don’t know. The throw by Kirk was a bit offline.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 5 runs on 3 hits, they're just pressuring the D and running all over Manoah. Welp...
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Tampa is the luckiest team on earth too... IF is in and he hits hit so s*****...it's just weak enough to have no play at the plate. Someone in Tampa sold their soul.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 I don’t know. The throw by Kirk was a bit offline. Still has to be caught. Kirk has no chance, Manoah can't hold them on.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 The 5 walks don't help also, lol. No doubt, he's been terrible. We have no chance with this type of pitching.
Blue Jays Lurker 2023 Verified Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Hello. My first post . This has been a frustrating and disappointing season for our beloved Blue Jays. My two cents: 1. The trade for Varsho in exchange for Gurriel who was one of our best clutch player plus a very young Moreno was a significant blunder move by Atkins. The intention was good to acquire a left handed batter but someone whose career batting average is .220-.230 is difficult to accept especially giving up two positional players with better upsides. 2. Atkins did not address the bullpen this offseason after what took place in the playoffs against Seattle. Yimi Garcia is a weak set up man. Cimber has a very weak arm. Romano is not a closer. 3. It maybe minor but Having to still carry an ineffective Biggio who totally underwhelms at both ends of the field is another reason why this team is struggling. Worse thing is Schneider continue to use him boggles my mind. 4. Another reason why our pitchers are getting picked off especially Manoah is because Kirk continue to tip pitches. He just don’t know how to adjust and help the PITCHERS. Behind the plate, he is just horrendous. He has not shown a competitive nature (example of a good catcher is Adler Rutschman). He has not established chemistry with the pitchers, zero leadership skills. A very bland player. He is slow because of his weight. They should have traded him last season when his value was at its highest. 5. The hitting coach disappoints. 6. Chapman had a good April but from that point, it has gone downhill. They should stop being too over reliant with technology. Watching him after every bat, countless checking of the IPad screws up his rhythm. Gone were the days when batters just have the confidence with their feel of the game. Delgado, Fernandez, Batista, Encarnacion relied on their natural talents. 6. For a team with aspirations to compete for a championship. Schneider should not be the manager. 7. They have not filled the farm. But the icing on the cake is Ross Atkins. He has completely failed this franchise.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 This is hard to watch. -Fat Manoah deliberately letting the the clock dwindle down to 1 to try and labor through innings. -He's not even trying to watch the baserunners who are getting massive jumps. -His stuff is completely gone so even after he gets 0-2 counts he's struggling to put hitters away. -5 Ks but only bc the stuff is so bad he's barely in the zone and has also issued 5 walks. -God awful defense behind him.

TorontonianJD Verified Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 One thing I’ve been wondering about these days is how guys like Bassitt and Gausman feel about what’s transpiring here. They signed thinking they were coming to a contender. It’s been a total disaster this season. Atkins MUST go.

Re Manoah…what are the chances he was using the sticky stuff the last couple seasons? Gurriel was terrible in the OF. Legit awful. Good arm, terrible jumps, terrible routes. Bullpen is decidedly better in all aspects than last season, theyre just getting run into the ground from pitching way too much. Manoah's spin rates are actually about the same or higher than last year. Sticky stuff is not a question
jerb Verified Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 Blake Murphy @BlakeMurphyODC Manoah threw 44 strikes to 43 balls. Only 6 pitchers have had that poor a strike rate with 85+ pitches this year. Manoah (twice) Bumgarner (DFA) Keller (IL) Butto (AAA) Cabrera Snell
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 just f***ing demote him call up Kloffenstein Yeah Kloff would be an aggressive callup but should be considered. I think they should demote Manoah after the game no matter who they call up. For starters, his performance warrants it and whatever AAA slop that replaces him won't be any worse. They can call up Kloff or just use some slop like Zach Thompson until Francis is ready. Second, this play is just completely unacceptable and some changes need to be made. Sloppy base running, lethargic defense, garbage ABs, etc. The division has basically slipped away and it's going to be a dogfight to make the WC now in what looks like a pretty competitive year for it with the AL West being more competitive. So we need to make some changes. Manoah should be demoted, the hitting coach should get canned (it's not his fault but heads should roll), and they should also consider doing something like demoting Biggio and calling up Horwitz (no idea where he plays).

If Atkins intention was to improve the outfield defense and to get a left handed batter, giving up Gurriel but most especially a very young Moreno was not the best way to go. They could have done better than a career .220 batter in Varsho.
