SSS variance.

DRS has Teo at 5 runs saved, Varsho at 4. OAA has Teo as 1 out above average, Varsho at 0.

Right now the numbers suggest Teo is the 2nd best RF in MLB defensively. I think we all know that's not the case.

He's arguably cost them 2 games with defensive blunders already. One with a terrible throw that hit off a runner and another with an adventure on a routine flyball, each leading ro multiple runs.

Idk how you fault him for the throw hitting the base runner, can’t really control where he’s running. But yes that flyball adventure was definitely something. Although to be fair Varsho missed a couple like that too

The base runner was pretty much standing on 1st base. This is something a professional outfielder should take into account.

The runner was standing on first base when he got hit, which is exactly what Teo should have expected when he made the throw.

Part of the blame lies with Ty France for not getting in a better position for the relay but I agree with TCA that it was a bad throw.

Alright I misremembered it, I thought he hit a runner going from 2nd to 3rd. Yeah that’s a bad throw

Yeah, he made a bonehead play that same game that cost the M’s a run.

I knew they weren't going to pay Teo so his lost doesn't feel like that big of a deal for me. I do feel they could have maybe got a little more for him. But as long as Swanson performs well this season we should be in good shape.

I think we did pretty good. We got a good RP with control, and a very intriguing SP prospect. I'm not sure what more we could have hoped for?

Kyle Schwarber from the Nationals to the Red Sox would maybe be a comparable? That was a deadline deal, but they're comparable players.

Swanson and Macko for 1 year of Teo's certainly a good deal.

Teoscar is making $14M this season. He really was not worth a whole lot.

Macko makes or breaks the deal. If he is any kind of useful MLB pitcher for Toronto, they win the thing hands down. If Macko busts then it might be closer to an even trade in hindsight unless Swanson really shoves.

Nothing wrong with the Teo deal from a controllability perspective.

If Swanson is a 1-2 WAR reliever per season and if Macko becomes something, Jays win. Teo is a FA after this season so only thing that might make them regret moving him is if he goes out and has a 5-6 WAR season which is unlikely. If he only has a 2-3 WAR season, not going to regret anything.

Let's not forget the value of the money saved as well. We added his direct replacement in Kiermaier, as well as an additional ~4 million for deadline deals. It also helps us positionally, which I'm not entirely sure how to value.

ZIPS has both Teo and KK pegged for 2.6 WAR, so it's a pretty slick bit of business if it plays out like that. We would essentially get Swanson, Macko, and some cash for nothing.

It's still early but it's looking like we made the right choice with regards to swapping Ray out for Gausman. 1.8 WAR compared to 6.7 WAR. Looking back on their contracts I'm actually surprised we got Gausman for what we did, compared to Ray's contract.

Someone on this forum calls Blue Jays talk because they repeated this almost verbatim haha.

It is early but it's been so lopsided so far that it would take a huge reversal of fortunes for those two to make us regret picking Gausman over Ray.

Every team wishes they had gotten Gausman on this deal

Grichuk is making his season debut tonight after off season sports hernia surgery. Hopefully more ready to go than his numbers from his rehab assignment would suggest (.288 OPS in 36 PA at AAA).

Yep and has found the command enough in the past to have a bit of success, as recently as 2021. Won't be surprised if someone gives him another shot.
