Really liking Sportsnet's way of presenting the pitch clock. They don't even show it until it gets to 6 seconds and it's a small part of the scorebug. You don't even notice it or the overall change that much.

 

It was dumb of MLB to have the first game showing it with a GIANT clock counting down right behind the batter. It was so jarring that it spooked a lot of fans. Add in the fact that it had a major impact with the count full and the bases loaded in the 9th and it was a pretty bad debut.

 

In the end it won't really matter but I think the way Sportsnet is handling it is a good way for all broadcasts to do it.

Is it just spring training or is Chapman hitting higher in the order than expected? This is a couple of games with him cleanup.

They will need to add a few new stats: "Unearned walks" "Unearned strikeouts". Now that's baseball.... LOL

"Robberse, the best Dutch prospect currently in the minors, lost some weight going into 2022 and it cost him over a mile an hour on his fastball, something he has to reverse to be more than a fifth starter. He’s a command guy with a great delivery and good spin on two distinct breaking balls. If he threw 96 mph, he’d be a top-10 pitching prospect in the sport. He looks like he could put some weight back on and get himself to solid-average velo, at which point he’s probably a mid-rotation starter given his feel for pitching and present command. I’m betting he gets there."

 

Yeah, a velo uptick goes well, with his pitchability...

 

BA Grade/Risk: 45/High

 

Track Record: While baseball is a global game, few legitimate major league prospects have come from Europe. Robberse, who grew up in The Netherlands, is looking to make a name for himself as a true European major leaguer. After signing for $125,000 during the 2019 international signing period, Robberse blossomed into a legitimate starting pitching prospect. He spent a majority of his 2022 season at High-A Vancouver and made 17 starts for the Canadians before seeing a late-season promotion to Double-A New Hampshire.

 

Scouting Report: A slight righthander with a long arm action and true three-quarters slot, Robberse mixes three pitches predominantly in his fastball, slider and changeup combination. He sits 89-92 mph on a four-seam fastball that has natural cut and mixes in a low-to-mid-80s slider with moderate sweep. The two pitches account for over 75% of his pitch usage. He shows a mid-to-high-80s changeup to lefthanded hitters that generated high rates of whiffs and chase swings. Robberse lacks power but repeats his delivery well and shows the ability to tunnel both his slider and changeup off his fastball. Overall it's a strong pitch mix with improving feel and command.

 

The Future: Robberse has the look of a pitchability back-of-the-rotation starter. If Robberse can add strength, and subsequently velocity, he has a chance to crack a big-league rotation.

 

Scouting Grades: Fastball: 45. Slider: 50. Changeup: 55. Control: 50.

JaysAllMighty loves watching the same amount of baseball only with 30 extra minutes of guys adjusting their jockstraps.

I had no idea who Jimmy Burnette was, but a lefty reliever currently sitting 94-95, had elite K numbers in A+ and AA at 23 years old last year, albeit with a concerning walk rate. Could be another lefty option that's not too far from getting a look at the big league level.

I had no idea who Jimmy Burnette was, but a lefty reliever currently sitting 94-95, had elite K numbers in A+ and AA at 23 years old last year, albeit with a concerning walk rate. Could be another lefty option that's not too far from getting a look at the big league level.

 

I imagine we'll see a lot of the minor league lefties this spring. Either someone steps up and earns that second lefty role or Atkins will have to go shopping. Fry has looked like hot garbage so far.

It would be nice to start churning out some home grown relievers, they have a lot of interesting arms.
