Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Next WBC they should look at extending all star break and doing the WBC mid season instead of the all-star game / festivities. You would get players in midseason form and most likely the top pitchers. Probably won’t do it for 2026, but maybe they’ll tinker with it in the CBA negotiations in 2027
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Great game. Gotta feel for Ohtani and Trout going back to LA Angels spring training after this tourney. I would think this tournament would cement in their minds that they want to play for winning organizations after this experience.

Trout is kinda stuck there I think.

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 The Japanese pitching was so good. The US arms could not compare. Freeland and Merrill Kelly vs Darvish, Ohtani, and others who would be very good MLB pitchers. Or will be.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Throwing Kyle Freeland in a do or die championship game lol

The bullpen was pretty good outside Bard who really struggled, but still some great names. Rotation was Lance Lynn + corpse of Waino + scrubs. USA can do so much better than that. Maybe get some hungry younger guys next time around… Strider, Manoah, Bieber, Webb, etc…

I also hope Ernie Whitt gets put to pasture.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Also would be nice if Canada could actually have some arms next time around, guys like Siroka, Pivetta, Romano etc. would be great.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Wainwright's good man. I mean yeah maybe but he’s also old as fk and could drop off a cliff
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 I mean yeah maybe but he’s also old as fk and could drop off a cliff But he performed well, it had nothing to do with the result, hahaha.

What kind of money do participants of the WBC get vs Soccer world cup and other international best-on-best tourneys?

Freeland and Merrill Kelly vs Darvish, Ohtani, and others who would be very good MLB pitchers. Or will be. That was the big differentiator. The Japanese that didn’t throw 100 had all manner of other filth. Can we give Kikuchi to them in exchange for another please?

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Yall are pretend baseball fans and you should be ashamed Even Brownie came around I don't feel like a having a rooting interest one way or the other. There are only so many hours in the day and the WBC doesn't make the cut for how I want to use any of those hours. Go Jays Go!

Yep, for someone who watches almost every single Blue Jays game and who follows off field stuff as much as I do, I watch shockingly little non-Jays baseball.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Yall are pretend baseball fans and you should be ashamed Even Brownie came around I sure did - although you say that like I'm some stubborn fool. I think part of my resistance was simply knowing that Canada was going to be awful and watching them play other s***** teams like GB didn't appeal to me. Watching a legendary baseball nation like Japan play the US was must watch baseball.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Yeah, the game quality in the tournament ranged from unwatchable trash to epic showdown.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Excited to watch real Baseball in a week. I’m glad Ohtani fathered Trout last night though.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 (edited) The WBC needs to institute minimum uniform regs and or governing body approval for next time. GB was pathetically bush league. I am being 100% serious when I say my 7 yr olds little league uniforms look more professional and upscale then GB. Canada's absolutely sucked also. Not that Canada is known for fashion ( I have seen too many French Canadians in Florida with tight cut off jean shorts to know that). However, Canada's uniform sucked balls also and they need to do better. Both GB and Canada looked bush league, with GB looking like something done in an 8th grade Home Econ class. John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Yeah, the game quality in the tournament ranged from unwatchable trash to epic showdown. It really was completely polar from game to game and day to day. Towards the end though, all the games were pretty great. The only real stain on the WBC this year was the 2 higher profile injuries that people will always whine about, even though both were really just freak accidents.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
