Fnnn epic collapse/choke in the last week, Doyle Alexander getting us, Henke blowing saves, our platoon 3b guys s***ing the bed at big ABs... Still haunted by it to this day.. LOL

lol. When I was a younger kid I didn't watch every game just the big ones. So the first few games I ever watched were like the 1985 ALCS and the 1987 last weekend. Crazy that I still became a lifelong fan after that first impression.

1987 Blue Jays could have used some analytics (as could the mid 90s teams). Like I said I didn't watch every game but looks like they played Garth Iorg and Willie Upshaw way to much. That was kind of a big mistake as it led to Cecil Fielder being let go. In an alternative universe Jays play Fielder and McGriff 150 games starting in 1987. They win in 87 and 90 because of the extra offense Fielder provides. Of course you can't really do that, because in that case Alomar, Olerud, Molitor probably don't become a thing.

The 1987 Tigers won 98 games. They were first in wRC+. They drew a lot of walks. They likely used early forms of Analytics including reading the 1987 Bill James Baseball Abstract. They scored 50 more runs than the Blue Jays. They won the division. The Blue Jays did not.

Analysis of stats been around for 80 years, it's just advanced exponentially in the past 20-30 thanks in large part to advances in technology and expanding how people look at the game, especially using economic strategies like the Moneyball line about front offices should be looking to buy runs, not players, and realizing where those runs actually came from. A relatively simple shift in that school of thought changed MLB drastically.

Whits a good guy. Fun fact his dad got called up but then never got to play. It happened to him as well, called up but then told he won’t be playing. Sounds like he fought pretty hard to earn his spot and have a decent career.

Lets sign Chappy for 7 years 175million with incentives and start this offseason with a bang.

If we want to go cheap, I'd love IKF on a 2-3 year deal. Won a gold glove there and can be a oppo hit machine with a little bit of pop and High Baseball IQ

Is this a strategy the other members here used to get hired by MLB teams? Ala Mr Soup.

We all know MLB teams follow this board.

Keep posting genius trade ideas and eventually get offered a job

That's how I got my job with the Rockies.

Jays are getting City Connect jerseys this year. They are going to be so freaking bad I can already tell.

Please Shapiro - somehow make them decent

What the hell are we going to do at 3B you guys?

I trust that Ross has a plan but it is freaking grim out there both in FA and trade wise at that position.

IMO our best option is to fill it internally. Spend or trade in other areas where we do have more choice.

I've thought that but how?

Seems like Orelvis and Barger are moving off 3rd. Palmegiani barely played there when he went up to AAA as well.

Biggio and Espinal are so uninspiring it pains me to even think of them platooning there. I don't think Babe Schneider can do it (though I do think he can lock down 2B for us).

Seems like the trade route is the way to go? But the trade market looks like crap too if you peruse through the various Roster Resource pages.

I do have Chapman as a better overall player then Jo-Ram. I think Chappy has untapped power, great baserunning, sick D and pretty decent eye. Great leader at a toughhhhhh position on the Diamond.

Out of curiosity, were you still in the Clink from June until October? Chapman was a no show...

Some combination of all of the above seems reasonable. I think you hope one of Barger or Orelvis grabs hold of the position in the spring, but we do have the bodies if they don't. The way I look at it is some combo of those guys probably match or exceed the other available options with the exception of Chapman. If we really want to sign a 3rd baseman in FA, I'd rather do it next year when there's better options available. I'd personally rather overpay for Bellinger than overpay for Chapman.

Hell, get Bellinger AND Yelich.

Bellinger 3B, Biggio LF, Schneider 2B

Biggio as our Corner OF and persuading a FA you’re after to switch positions, to somewhere they haven’t played.

Not sure which thought process is more dumb
