Panic sets in.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 I'd give Tidemann for Parades. 4 years of control on that guy...2b/3b. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/isaac-paredes/20036/stats?position=3B Me too Even though it would pretty much guarantee that Tiedeman becomes the next David Price
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Me too Even though it would pretty much guarantee that Tiedeman becomes the next David Price We’re win now, I’d do it too.
Rimar Verified Member Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 I will never do such, will be a really bad move. Even for Manoah I wouldn't. Good young SP with years of control are very hard to find and expensive, so if have to trade one, should only be for a star player, no for a easy to find infield player, no matter if he have years of control. If we can land Yamamoto, and we keep Manoah and Tidermann, we won't have to stress about replacing Gausmann, Berios and Bassit. The price to get good SP will be insanely too high. So better keep Chapman 4/100, sign Soler 3/54, Bellinger 6/180 and Yamamoto 10/220. I don't think Chapman and Bellinger will get respectively contracts of more than 4 years for Chapy and 6 for Bellinger from other teams.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Me too Even though it would pretty much guarantee that Tiedeman becomes the next David Price I'm just really leery of whether Paredes will continue having the type of success he enjoyed in 2023 as his expected stats are really underwhelming. I wouldn't say I'd place Tiedemann in the untouchable category but it's awfully close.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Zips has the Jays projected for what..86 wins right now? Probably still going to add a LF, 3B and DH. Chapman, Bellinger and Martinez would add about 7 wins to the projections

Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Please stay away from Chapman. He is clearly declining offensively. The guy produced wRC+ 75 or less in 4 of the 6 months of the season. For context, Varsho outhit Chapman in May, June, August, and September. Varsho was a better hitter than Chapman in the second half.

Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 You can’t just ignore a month or two where a guy was literally the best player in the game. He is inconsistently bad offensively; often really bad with some flashes of good performance. Given that his monster month was April, it is clear that the league adjusted to him.
Rimar Verified Member Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 With Vlad, Bichette, Soler, Bellinger, Springer as heart of our offense, guys like Chapman and Varsho, will be more here for their defense skills. And both can hit 20+ HR. But no more than 4 years for Chapman.
Rimar Verified Member Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Adkins should check if Manny Machado on trade market. If Padres agree to retain part of his salary, maybe something like Manoah, Orelvis and Biggio can convince them🤔
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Are the Padres going to tear it down though? Or just trade away the short term pieces.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Can one of you Bellinger fan boys please explain why I should want him? I want to believe but I can’t get there. Thanks
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Can one of you Bellinger fan boys please explain why I should want him? I want to believe but I can’t get there. Thanks Haha, I'm the same. I keep telling myself what he was last year is what we need, and what he'll be going forward. I also tell myself that his down years were more a reflection of his shoulder injury and COVID than him being a phony. Jays seem to be after him, hopefully they know what the EFF they're doing.

Thanks Largest risk/reward of any free agent. Worth the gamble for the Jays more than perhaps any other team, given the team situation. In other words, if Bellinger delivers a "good" year, the Jays are in the post season with a good chance to reach the WS while they still have Bo/Vlad.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Largest risk/reward of any free agent. Worth the gamble for the Jays more than perhaps any other team, given the team situation. Varsho is Corner OF long-term in that case.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Varsho is Corner OF long-term in that case. No, Springer LF, Varsho CF, Bellinger RF. As far as CF goes, Kiermaier > Varsho > Bellinger.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Varsho is Corner OF long-term in that case. Why? Why can't Belly go to RF and Springer to LF? I mean unless he insists on playing CF as part of the deal of course.
