Assuming no extensions, biggest names right now aside from Soto are Verdugo, Santander, Haniger and Conforto. Small chance of Ozuna but he has a club option at 16 million that’s likely a guaranteed pickup. Tyler O’Neill…Heyward.

Next years OF FAs are weak once you get past Soto

IF is a different story.

Bregman, Altuve, Goldy

Sign me up for some Bregman action.

There isn't a bat available this offseason that's worth spending $250 million towards anyway. Aside from Soto I don't know who will potentially be available after the 2024 season.

Don't really see anyone other than Soto getting $250M or more. Alex Bregman might have been a candidate but don't think he signs a 10-year deal anywhere since he'll be 31 in 2025 and his offensive numbers have been trending in the wrong direction over the past 3 seasons. It's a weak FA class for bats.

Alonso won't get that much unless he blasts 60-70 HR's in 2024 lol.

You just said if the Jays signed Yama, they could trade one of their back-end rotation starters for a solid bat. So you think Manoah, Kikuchi or Bassitt can bring in a 4-5 WAR bat?

I think Gausman and maybe Berrios could, but then you're talking about trading your No. 1 or 2 starter. Those guys aren't in the lower part of the rotation.

You can package Manoah up for a solid bat probably. They were just speculating that's what they were shopping for Soto, one of the best bats out there.

The point is if you can add a potential ace like Yama, you do it and then find a way to use the excess pitching to upgrade the offense.

Ah yes forgot about Pete. With a good year he could be a 30 million guy, probably not for 10 years though given his position. He would be just turning 29 so he could do reasonably well.

How many years and how much would you give Bregman? Will be 31.

That's tricky, a lot of that would depend on his performance in the upcoming season. I would suspect he'd at least receive a similar contract to what Marcus Semien earned himself a few seasons ago.

Yeah I understand Manoah + was being dangled in a deal for Soto, but given the circumstances where the Padres are looking to dump Soto and his $33M salary, and with only one-year left. After Soto is traded to the Yankees, which other 4-5 WAR player could Manoah be dangled for?

I agree the Jays could use their excess pitching to upgrade the offense, but I don't see how arms like Kikuchi, Bassitt or Manoah bring in a significant upgrade to the offense. The only arms I see who could bring in a significant upgrade are Gausman and Berrios and perhaps a package built around Tiedemann. Otherwise, Kikuchi, Bassitt and Manoah don't really bring in anyone better than who is currently available as a FA (e.g. Teo Hernandez, Jorge Soler, etc.).

Yeah good comparison with Semien. A lot depends on his performance this upcoming season.

I don't know who's available, but if by some miracle the Jays sign Yama I would bet on Manoah + getting dealt for a solid bat from somewhere. It might happen whether they sign Yama or not.

Apparently we made a last ditch offer tonight for Soto including Tiedemann...I dont believe it

We might be glad that didn't happen some day

Oooof. Does that mean the Ohtani dream is dead?? Hard to see the Jays taking on Soto’s salary if they were anticipating taking on Ohtani’s salary too

Supposedly the Jays have a "unicorn" budget from Rogers if they are able to land Ohtani.

I really don't think they have much restrictions right now when it comes to going all in this off season.

Let's hope they land some big fishies

That makes me sad for what it could mean with Ohtani. There is no Plan C that can be good enough for the 2024 season.

Now we could be better off longterm but let's see what happens :(

Don’t let grown men making billions of dollars make you sad

Ohtani is different than Soto, than anyone really.

Industry consensus is that your ROI on having Ohtani on your team is $25 million a year for the ball club.

Therefore, if Ohtani is getting AAV of $50 million, it is really only a $25 million dollar spend for the ball club per year. $25 million per year is very doable for superstar and a large market club.

As much as I wanted Soto, and he would boost attendance etc, he is not bringing an ROI of anywhere near $25 million a year to the team.

Well, there goes Soto, as expected. Yankees will extend him and have a killer one-two punch for years to come. Would have been nice to have Moreno for such a deal, but we pissed him away for defensive proficiency. Judge/Soto vs Guerrero/Bo...LOL

Meanwhile we are dreaming in technicolour with a unicorn whose value we are being used to drive up for himself and his agent.

Fourth place here we come! The slow decline that started after 2021 will see its way into a rebuild in a year or two.

So you wanted to keep Moreno strictly to trade him for a 1 year rental?
