Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 That article doesn’t have my favorite scenario. Trade Vlad Jr for Soto. Padres save a lot of money and we get better, change culture. Yankees are already in discussions with Padres, we better act fast. Now explain why Padres would do this lmao?
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 Now explain why Padres would do this lmao? Doesn’t seem too crazy. Vlad you get two years instead of 1. You’re looking at a much less crazy extension at this point you’d think. Soto wants 10/450 with another good season. Vlad- 1b Kim- 2b Bogey- SS Machado- 3b

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 No chance No chance it’ll ever happen, I’m just commenting I could see the reasoning
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 No chance it’ll ever happen, I’m just commenting I could see the reasoning They will want a young player on a rookie contract basically or top prospect
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 They will want a young player on a rookie contract basically or top prospect Yeah I get the Betts deal is the benchmark. I forget where Verdugo was on the Pipeline scale. That’s the likely course, no doubt

That would be an absolute masterclass fleece if Shatkins could pull that off. Vlad's value on BTV is only 0.3 now (no one should be surprised by this, he's literally a replacement level DH that's going to make 20M in arbitration), while Soto's value on BTV is 22.9.

Thanks ...I like the very first comment "The biggest challenge facing the jays front office, is the Jays front office."
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 Now explain why Padres would do this lmao? $$$$ Industry chatter is they want to cut budget. Maybe to the point of being below the luxury tax.

Dropping the little bit down to Vlad wouldn't be where they do it though. Dropping from Soto to rookie contracts or prospects is how they would make the drop

Dropping from Soto to rookie contracts or prospects is how they would make the drop $13M isn't nothing. Plus they get a player with 2 years of control. They could also be looking to dump Soto and some bad money on a team. If the Yankees and Padres make a deal maybe the Yankees also take on Suarez or Cronenworth.

Yeah you’d think Cronenworth might be part of any deal. Would be wise. You still get a Verdugo guy plus do some dumping
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 Taking Cronenworth with 7/78 left on his deal at ages 30-36 just for one expensive season of Juan Soto seems like a really bad idea for whoever does it. Brian Cashman would probably do it though.

Thought youd be all over him considering your comments the past few days.

Sensationalizing doesn’t equal reading Unfortunately I read most of them. Soto is the “elite bat” you’ve been speaking of these past few days. If a playoff-bound team has a shot to add him to their roster, even if only for 1 season, gotta think they would do it.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 Gym is great but he’s still gonna be fat if he eats too much
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 Good stuff. Manoah’s jump in the second video is great for a big man.

If a playoff-bound team has a shot to add him to their roster, even if only for 1 season, gotta think they would do it. He’s a game changer, sure. But it’s like I’m the Bluejays with a 20% chance of beating ATL in a series, now I add Soto to be more dangerous in the PS and have a 30% chance of beating ATL. So for one season, does it make sense? But I do believe every GM in baseball understands it’s likely they’ll lose the WAR to WAR trade at the end. I don’t think it’s about that. These are billion dollar businesses and there’s a ton that go into these decisions that we aren’t privy to. Not everything can be judged on a nerd calculator, before or after a deal. Sometimes you have to factor an actual calculator into the equation.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 Gee whiz. Maybe with a better script they would have beat the middling Diamondbacks.

Laika Community Moderator Posted October 27, 2023 Posted October 27, 2023 He was 1 game late on seeing and feeling Kimbrel Nola was jekyl/hyde all year long so you think smart feely Rob Thomson could have taken him out a bit sooner than 82 pitches, in his stinker. Not sure if there were any other objectionable decisions. Maybe not asking Christopher Sanchez for another inning or two.
