I'm sure the team tries to push good habits on them but they are employees not pets.

 

Some players are just lost causes and struggle with their weight just like normal people do (they are still people after all). Others struggle with alcohol and drugs too.

 

I've read several stories about the Giants and Red Sox and how they tried to work with Pablo Sandoval. They would put two handlers in his hotel room each night and he would still find a way to sneak out and go eat a large pizza all to himself.

 

Very true. We don’t know or see all that goes on. CC struggled badly with booze for years. It wasn’t talked about much publicly until he came unglued and got treatment. Others have with diet etc. I can imagine the Red Sox pulled their hair out after they signed Panda to that big deal watching him over eat and pop his belt in a swing. We just need Kirky to kick his churro addiction. Hopefully Vlad, Manoah and Kirk can deal with the challenges.

We can only hope. There's so many underperforming fat guys this season (Manoah, Vlad, Kirk, Barriera, etc) that it should be a wake up call for the FO to actually acknowledge the herd of elephants in the room, pun intended.

 

These are professionals, blessed with the talent to get paid tons of money to play a fun sport. You have enough money to have personal chefs, dieticians and personal trainers to get in shape and stay in shape. And even if they aren't using their own money for this, the team needs to highly encourage the use of the performance complex which provides all of that.

 

Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results.

The problem is everyone wants to be nice and just tolerates it. Were simply too nice.

In some ways it's baked into the acquisition of the player, especially with Kirk. They signed him under the radar the way they did because he looks like that. If he was a chiseled 6'1'' 210 pounds with the same exact talent his signing money probably skyrockets.

 

Body type could have also played a factor with Vlad and Manoah as well. Perhaps Vlad signs for even more money and Manoah gets drafted even higher.

 

Sure would be nice to see them get it all under control though.

It's a team game, even Barry Bonds in Roided up Playstation mode couldn't carry his team to a championship. Joey was a beast. He rose to the occasion in several key moments.

 

I would kill to have somebody like Joey Bats on our team right now. He was a master of his craft and took his job seriously. He was a killer. He demanded respect and was unapologetic to anybody who didn't like the cut of his jib.

love this! we have no clutch players anymore. Last year, Kirk was pretty clutch, and what i would give to have a mountcastle on this team. You know they are going to get a hit, the question is where.

Speculation is Manoah and they end the 6-man rotation keeping Manoah as strictly depth. Or he could just replace Francis.

His struggles started with this but now he can't even hit middle middle cookies at 90 mph. Totally broken
