Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 And we play Twins round 1. Easy path to the DS No, WC 2 plays the Central.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 No, WC 2 plays the Central. No that’s wrong. WC1 plays WC2 WC3 plays the worst division winner, which in this case would be Twins. Remember last year Tampa had WC3 and played the Guardians
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 The fact that we're even discussing the Twins being in the playoffs is an absolute joke lol C'mon MLB, be better....

Remember last year Tampa had WC3 and played the Guardians Yeah if the playoffs started today it would be: Rays (1) and Rangers (2) get a bye Jays (6) at Twins (3) - Wild Card Yankees (5) at Orioles (4) - Wild Card Winner of Yankees/Orioles vs Rays - ALDS Winner of Jays/Twins vs Rangers - ALDS
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 And we play Twins round 1. Easy path to the DS Nothing is ever easy in baseball.

Still have to play good baseball to beat the Twins, though definitely on paper its an easier path to the DS and to the CS if you're playing the Rangers.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Nothing is ever easy in baseball. I guess this flew over several people’s heads, but I was joking. Nothing is easy. Seattle was supposed to be “easy” last year
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 So that was his problem? Well, if you’re going to slip on a word, at least it was that one. That guy that had been doing it 25 years got canned for the N word
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 So that was his problem? We need to get Biggio more sex! Dude gonna lead the team in homers by September.

I'm not about to make any predictions about Biggio's future production but there's certainly lots of reason for hope. He's been doing the exact type of things at the plate that were known as his primary weaknesses, such as hitting velocity, hitting pitches up in the strike zone, and hitting the ball hard with regularity. Instead of deriving his offensive value by literally not swinging at pitches he's deriving value by doing damage at the plate instead.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2023 Posted June 26, 2023 True Nothing is easy But I'd much rather play the Twins in the first round rather than the Orioles, Astros or Rangers I dont think much of the Twins offense.. pen is middle of the road, but their front end of the pitching staff can shut any team down. Kind of the opposite of the Orioles where they have the offense, but the SP lacks - but the back end of the BP is lights out and good night.

It's not scary at all. Their starting rotation with Ryan, Gray and Lopez in a 3 game series could be tough. Ober has been pretty good as well. Like you said, opposite of the O's who have a great lineup and shut down pen, but lacking in their starting rotation. Difference with winning WC3 and facing the Twins, if you advance you get the deGromless Rangers in the DS likely if they hold onto the division, which is a plus.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2023 Posted June 26, 2023 So that was his problem? There was a couple of Buck blunders yesterday. I think he drank a few too many brews during the game.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 26, 2023 Posted June 26, 2023 Yeah the Rangers rotation is very exploitable. Eovaldi is really good still but Gray, Perez, Heaney, and Dunning are all mediocre and getting super lucky. The Texas rotation has been the luckiest in baseball by FIP/ERA differential. Every non-Eovaldi SP looks like a ticking timebomb.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2023 Posted June 26, 2023 So that was his problem? It's like his balls finally dropped. He used to have success by being scared and too timid to swing the bat because following his highly successful 2019 debut he stopped doing any damage with his bat. Now he's gone all alpha doing a ton of damage at the plate with greatly improved strikeout and walk rates compared to earlier in the season. The last month and a bit for him is pretty crazy as he's sporting a 51.2% hard rate, barrel rate of 19.5%, and average exit velocity of 92.1 MPH. If Biggio can provide these kinds of numbers as a part time player that's still a nice boost for the bench.

Every non-Eovaldi SP looks like a ticking timebomb. Gray had a really nice month of starts heading into the Jays series before they tuned him up. Still big FIP/ERA spit as his ERA was an unsustainably low 0.84, but FIP was still a very solid 2.76. I am hoping that particular game could be a bit of a launching pad for the Jays offense as I think they have been showing signs of life since then.
