John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 I don’t know. I have heard that before over the years with guys in ST. They always ended up being hurt or re-injuring themselves. Hope it really is just an over abundance of caution, he is fine and plays over 140 games. It is, there’s a full article on him in the Athletic and he and the Jays only figure he needs about 2-3 weeks to be ready for opening day. He is there in camp and could play today if they wanted to.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 Suppose we won't see much of Springer or Belt until last few weeks of ST Less chance of a sprinkler head encounter
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 Suppose we won't see much of Springer or Belt until last few weeks of ST Less chance of a sprinkler head encounter I get it, but no substitute for in game ABs. In Springers case, getting comfortable/communicating with his new OF partners etc. We are playing St. Louis on the road and that will be a tough series, don’t want to start out in a hole.

Those guys just need the equivalent of a MiLB rehab stint to get their timing and the like back. They are working everyday to get physically ready.

KK and Springer are long term veterans, them getting used to each other defensively shouldn’t take weeks, more like a few games at most.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 I am just being inquisitive because we went down this road before with Jays teams. Remember Gibbons publicly made a shift due to our s***** starts. Gibbons used to say they are vets and don’t need much time and don’t need to work on ABC and then we were always getting off to the s*** starts or saw a lot of new team errors in the field etc. Gibbons publicly shifted tact after that and went away from the, they are veterans and don’t need the time/reps etc. Gibby stated lesson learned.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 They still work in intrasquad-games in the backfields CD, nothing to worry about.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 This baby does not want to come out... Jesus christ dude. Imagine any of us taking like 4 weeks off work because “my wife is going to deliver soon”
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 No more WBC for Kirk.

Most of us aren’t worth 30M in surplus value to our employers either Athletes live in a different world. They are the exception to the rule and sometimes life just isn’t fair. If I hadn’t blown out my knee I would’ve made the CFL
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 In Canada you can take several weeks of paternity leave concurrent with your wife's normal maternity leave Kirk won't get more than a couple days at home with his kid post birth

Just saying there's nothing wrong with pointing it out. It is what it is.

Anyways my point was that this is not the norm for ball players to be taking this much time off for a birth. I guess its only spring training, but this year feels important with all the rule changes and WBC

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 He's not going though. Yes, but others are. I guess Berrios is probably the only significant pitcher for the Jays that will be gone
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2023 Posted February 26, 2023 Decent little write-up on Barger. I didn't know he was a natural righty!

If you don't like being a bottom cog in the capitalist system, stop taking it up the ass and do something about it. I'm going on...100 months of "paternity leave" now and I don't even have a kid. Nothing worse than a worker bee complaining about their predicament but they are too much of a wuss to quit their job and hustle as an entrepreneur. Krik, an out of shape nobody given like a $5,000 signing bonus to play baseball busted his ass, became good and now has earned the privilege of his employer sucking up to him. He absolutely deserves it over the typical worker bee.

Long walk...short pier (don't forget your steel toed boots) yah f***ing fossil. You mix some valid points (Kirk has earned the right to be with his family) with psycho s*** about taking it up the ass if you aren't capable or willing to win in a capitalist environment...

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 Yes, we're all aware that capitalism has failed as an economic system. You could argue that it has been a little too good, especially recently. Equality was never a promise of capitalism.
