Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 Seems like a lot of new rules for one offseason honestly. I feel like they should only be introducing like 1 of these things each year or else s*** will get confusing for everyone really quick. We’ll see how April goes
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2023 Author Posted February 16, 2023 I'm curious if the umps not feeling the buzzer becomes an issue from time to time. I have a smart watch and I'll admit, I don't always feel the vibrating on my wrist when my alarm goes off. I hope they really cranked that vibration up.

MLB has thought of that and came up with this solution.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2023 Author Posted February 16, 2023 MLB has thought of that and came up with this solution. Damn. Is it too late to become an umpire?
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 Looking forward to seeing how these rules impact the pace of play. Could be a big positive if all goes according to plan

wamco Verified Member Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 Would you rather have spend the 41m this off-season on- (assume varsho trade still happened and Green still signed) bassitt (3x21), belt (1/9) Kk (1/9) Swanson (1m in 2023, then rest of arby for remaining years) and Macko Or Rodon (6x27) Teo (1/14)

Teo is a free agent after this season, and we got controllable assets back. Rodon contract is likely going to be a disaster after a few years, or even this year (whenever his next serious injury occurs).
The_DH Verified Member Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 Say what ya want about Buck, but he's one tough hombre... It's one of the most memorable plays to me. Pretty much ended his career and it was at great personal risk to himself but he did it.

WAR-wise it's basically a wash, but I think the approach we ultimately ended up going with fills more holes, adds more versatility to our roster, and also hedges against underperformance/injuries.

I think I prob go option A as well…at least for the regular season. Gotta factor in rodon vs bassitt making playoff starts though.

Yeah, this is the big difference for me. As illustrated earlier it's more or less a wash if we're only looking at 2023, but even this year, our depth is far better with option A.

Well the breakdown in logic comparing WAR here is that you are taking the contribution of four players versus just two. Those two extra roster spots would likely produce more than 0 WAR. That being said I still like the Jays offseason and I don't even know why this was brought up, as if the Jays were in serious contention to sign Rodon or that I had a remote interest in seeing the Jays sign him to the terms he got.
