I guess Jansen is stuck in the middle of several scenarios that probably make him not all that extension worthy at the moment.

#1. Injury history

#2. Kirk is friggin awesome, cheaper and under more control already

#3. Trying to extend Vlad and/or Manoah would be higher priority

I think IF the jays were to approach Jansen, they'd probably want to line up his last year to be the same as Kirk's current last year of control which is the end of 2026. That would be buying 2 FA years after his 2024 Arb 3.

so,,, 3 years/32 million ish? call it 7 million for 2024 arb 3 and then 12.5M for 2 more years?

Murphy got 15m for his FA years, but I think Murphy might be a bit higher on the catcher tree than Jansen. Maybe not. 3 years 37?

Other than injury history, the other items are a non-factor. The way I look at it, if you want to trade Jansen with the hypothetical contract, would teams give you good offers.

So it comes down to this: What is likely to result in higher return in 2024?

1- Danny Jansen with 1 arbitration year remaining?

2- Danny Jansen with 3 years of control @ 10M each.

For me, it is easily 2.

Jays 2023 St. Patrick's Day Spring Training Hat

I like the color scheme but I think some of the other teams are better as they went with special logos.

The leaf should have been changed to a clover.

I'm usually not a fan of the themed hats. At least change the logo to a leaf/clover type thing. Lazy money grab.

Blue Jays' Bo Bichette Speaks For First Time After Agreeing To New Contract

Sounds like he's happy with the team

Sounds like they ONLY discussed a 3 year deal, not a long term extension

So Romano not pitching in the WBC seems to be precautionary, he looks fine there. Nice.

Also, Term is right, that dude is nuts not putting on a helmet, lol.

George Springer said there were “no issues” with the October surgery to remove a bone spur in his elbow. Began baseball activities “after the first of the year.. I feel great and I’m excited about it.” #BlueJays @SportsCamDude

The sound of gloves popping is one of the best sounds in the world. Reminds me of my JUCO days where you’d have like 4 mounds of guys throwing pens in the gym during winter.

On a different note: which non-roster player do you think will be the candidate that we all think should make the 26-man roster?

I'm going to go with Tiedemann as a pitcher and Capra as a bat.

I like that discussion, but expect someone needs to post a list of non-roster invitees to increase participation as most of us are too lazy to find one ourselves.

Good question. I think it will be tough for a NRI pitcher to crack the roster at this point. I don't think Tiedemann has a chance.

As for hitters, Jamie Richie is one injury away (to either Kirk or Jansen) so he has a shot. Capra is a good guess too.

But I'll go with Wynton Bernard. We've got the space for a right handed hitting outfielder/26th man and he has elite sprint speed as he was in the 99th percentile last year. His stolen base numbers look pretty good in the minors as well so maybe with the rules changes he could be more effectively deployed. I'm not sure if his defense follows his sprint speed or not but if it does he's got a real shot IMO.

I'm thinking we may call for Tiedemann to be 5th starter. The first year Jimmy Key made the team (as the only lefty reliever) some of us were calling on him to be a starter. He was good. I'm thinking Tiedemann may be better than Kikuchi and others.

Good point. Yes for now out of spring training. I'm thinking this year's Greg Bird.

One of the lefty relievers has a shot, Eisert maybe. I think there's 0 chance of a position player making it out of camp unless there's a series of injuries

My take...

Not a chance does Tiedemann make this team out of spring training. He's pitched 11 innings in AA, he's not going to be 21 until August, and he's not on the 40 man roster. You'd have to dump someone to make room for him. It would be poor roster/asset management.

And in case you're going to cite Manoah....Alek was 23 when he got called up after his 18 innings in AAA. No need to rush Tiedemann. The team has depth on the mound. Should they run into serious injury issues, poor performance issues, AND Tiedemann sets the world on fire, maybe at that point do they look at that move...but after the All-Star break would be the earliest I can see that happening...and that's in a perfect world.
