I like him as a bounce back candidate but question whether the front office would see him as a character fit due to the on and off the field shenanigans.

 

Yeah that's the issue - he seems like an a-hole.

How would Tim Anderson look at 2B? Would kind of remind me as when the Jays signed Semien to a one-year deal for the 2021 season. Has a chance to be a bounce back candidate.

 

Yeah I said at the trade deadline he seems like a Ross Atkins acquisition. His offensive profile is really risky so wouldn't surprise me if 2023 was the start of a decline for him but could also be a buy low candidate who can bounce back (123 wRC+ in 1641 PA from 2019-22). Plus he fits the type of offense the 2023 Jays seemed to love. Wouldn't shock me if the Jays picked him up, but I'm sure there is a team out there that would play him at SS.

When the Jays signed Semien, he had finished the last two months of the season with over a 1000 OPS. Semien was also thought of as great team mate and leader.

 

TA absolutely phoned it in this year, basically quit some ABs it seemed. He is an attitude on and off the field and do not want him as part of our culture or influencing our younger players. Whom are apparently still very impressionable.

 

I say hard no for the good of the overall TEAM.

The Padres declined Wacha's two-year, $32 million option for 2024-25 on Saturday, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

 

That's a real head scratcher. Wacha has posted a 3.27 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 228:74 K:BB over 261.2 innings over last two seasons. You would think he's worth $16M.

 

Padres likely losing Snell as a free agent as well, so don't get why they didn't pick up the option on Wacha. Padres definitely selling Soto and Machado this offseason.

I thought they'd pick it up. You'd think they could have found a trade for him at 2/32 if they couldn't afford it themselves.

 

Lugo also declined his 7.5M player option, as did Nick Martinez. Their 2024 rotation rotation right now is just Darvish and Musgrove. They'll need to find 3 arms with very little payroll space to do it, though they might find one in a Soto trade.

Babe and Spencer are on there, with wRC+ higher than Arenado

Niiice. Vlad projection is still pretty lofty. Varsho projected to be the 3rd highest in WAR behind Vlad and Bo. They also think Kirk and Springer bounce back.

 

Lineup could look a lot better next year with a little regression to the mean (or progression if you will) and a couple shrewd additions.

So Steamer says the obvious. The returning players should be fine but the team needs 3B LF and DH filled.

 

It would be weak sauce to go into the year with Biggio being part of a platoon solution anywhere.

Counsel is hired to manage the Cubs. David Ross fired. Wowsers.

 

This seems completely outrageous. Not sure what he was expected to do with that team.

Wonder if paying a manager that much is actually worth it.

 

Feels like most of the time a team pays big money for a star manager it ends in spectacular failure: Maddon in LA, Showalter in NY, Girardi with PHI

Paying all that for a manager when teams have already established how to play out the game before it starts seems a bit much lol.

Braves exercise Morton's 20M option. I remember an article about him like 6 years ago with him saying he'd probably retire early. He's going to pitch at 40 next year.

Yeah I remember that as well. And he wouldn't sign with anyone other than Tampa because it was close to his offseason home. Atlanta is close enough I guess and he just keeps going.

These guys always say that. It gives them a little extra leverage in negotiating. It's like having an extra suitor. The guys that really want to retire just do it, without talking about it, like Kyle Seager.

Hmm. Would love to bring Hoskins in as our DH/1B.

If the Phillies won't pay him 20MM for one year, decent chance we could get him for 4/$60 or something along those lines.

 

I don't see Hoskins signing a 4 year/$60M contract and wouldn't want to sign him for that as well. He likely signs a one-year deal + an option to build back his value again. He's a 1B/DH type. Wouldn't want to lock him up till he's 35.

 

I think he would be a great fit in this lineup though. Jays need a masher who could hit 30+ HR's.

Wheeler/Strider not nominated for NL CY Young is a big miss IMO - although we've discussed how complicated that award/race was this year already.

 

ERA still seems to play a major role?
