hanton Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 I mean Lynn going up against the best lineup in baseball
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 wow Mookie sends a 99mph FB on the outside corner into the right field seats - right off the top of the wall
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 Between him and Ohtani, I don't think we've ever seen two athletes as exciting as them across all sports. MLB needs to do a better job promoting their stars. Acuna is great but he’s not on Ohtani’s level. We see players have great individual seasons every year but what Ohtani has done is unprecedented.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 Another bomb for Betts. Killer game.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 (edited) Dodgers almost made an epic comeback. A lot of long balls last night geez. Dodgers/Braves for sure would make a fun NLCS! Edited September 1, 2023 by jaysblue
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 Dodgers Braves would definitely be peak playoff baseball. Hopefully we see that series. No team in the AL holds a candle to either of those squads to the NLCS could be more entertaining than the World Series.

Yeah if the NLCS is between the Dodgers & Braves, could definitely be more entertaining and better than the World Series. Only team in the AL that could match those squads would have been the Rays at the start of the year when they were healthy and playing their best baseball. Right now, maybe the Astros given their rotation and lineup.
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 The Braves are completely disgusting
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 The Braves are completely disgusting Their lineup 1 through 9 is surreal. Sean Murphy with a .900 OPS was batting 7th for them last night. Pitching wise, got to love your chances with Strider, Fried, Elder and Morton in a Postseason series. As long as their big arms stay healthy, they'll be fine. Their bullpen, which has been solid and has a lot of high K guys, might be their only question mark.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 Here are all the Braves with a higher wOBA than Vladimir Guerrero Jr.: Acuna Olson Murphy Ozuna Riley Albies Harris Arcia Rosario Yes, their entire starting lineup. Every single hitter.
Nursehoneybadger Verified Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 good thing the jays can beat both of those teams pretty easily. Jays/braves or jays/dodgers. Jays in 4.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 Josh Donaldson signed with the Brewers. Hope he could hit well for them this final month and maybe we could give him a look at 3B next season on a cheap one-year deal to be in a time share with maybe Barger or someone.

Every single hitter. Crazy to think that Eddie Rosario would be one of the Jays best hitters if he was in their lineup.

I can't see this happening, I want to see more of Schneider at 3B
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 good thing the jays can beat both of those teams pretty easily. Jays/braves or jays/dodgers. Jays in 4. Jays just need to get to the Postseason and with their rotation, could likely hang in there with the Dodgers or Braves in a 7 game series. Only thing that holds the Jays back is their lineup, which doesn't even match up to the Braves/Dodgers. The Jays pitching (both rotation and bullpen) would have to be near perfect every game in order to win.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 I can't see this happening, I want to see more of Schneider at 3B Schneider definitely deserves a spot in the starting lineup heading into next season, whether it's at 2B or 3B. Would be his job to lose in ST.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 MLB Network were discussing the Jays as one of darkhorses if they make the post season specifically for the good rotation - but we gotta get there first
Nursehoneybadger Verified Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 The dodgers and braves lineups have had their struggles. Both teams have been hot lately while jays struggling so I think it seems more daunting than it would be right now.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 MLB Network were discussing the Jays as one of darkhorses if they make the post season specifically for the good rotation - but we gotta get there first Damn that’s the nail in the coffin for this season then. They’ve been picking the Padres as favorites for years. Kiss of death to be picked by MLB network
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 I can't see this happening, I want to see more of Schneider at 3B I don't know if he has the arm for that. I think he's probably going to get locked in as the starting 2B next year.

Kiss of death to be picked by MLB network haha no kidding - mostly just talking points for them anyway - it would get really boring if they always picked the dodgers/braves/astros....

Unfortunately that's basically already the case in the regular season as the team doesn't have much of a chance to win if the starter doesn't bring his A game that day.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 Obviously. Well you’re the one who said you’ve never seen athletes more exciting than Ohtani and Acuna. I don’t think what Acuna is doing is even more impressive than what Judge did last year

Let’s see what the younger prospects have

I don’t think what Acuna is doing is even more impressive than what Judge did last year When I think of players/teams that I've considered must-watch over the last 20 years or so: - peak Bonds - Ohtani - 2021 deGrom - 2022 Judge - 2001 Mariners 2023 Acuna is up there for me, but it's the combination of the unique power/speed combo, his enthusiasm for the game, and the fact that he leads off for one of the best teams/offenses we've seen in the last few decades. I think he's the league's most marketable player after Ohtani.

DeGrom was insane in 21 With the new rules Acuna’s season isn’t as special for me. 30/70 or whatever he ends up going doesn’t mean what it did even last year. They’re going to have to create an SB+ metric to quantify what those bases actually mean
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 Any list that doesn't have Babe Schneider's 2023 season on it is going to get docked a few points for the clear oversight
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 How the f*** did Acuna shave 12% off his K rate? 11.9% this year 23.6% the two prior years.
