Panic move for NYY. Nothing about Dominguez' performance this year suggests he's ready to handle MLB pitching.

I mean, sometimes you gotta look beyond the paper numbers and look at all the underlying things they are doing exceptionally well like hitting the Baseball very hard, the quality of their plate appearances. Those numbers are a great source of projection but young players are continuously getting better and take huge steps sometimes those steps come at the next level.

Dominguez was average against the AA sticky ball. Every pitcher was ripping rise balls. Once they changed balls he nuked the league. And he'd nuke AAA too, they don't even have mlb strike zones.

I wonder if Toronto will claim Grichuk today.

Have to think all the other notable players get claimed before Toronto. Renfroe, Giolito, Lopez, Moore, Bader.

Bump McCoy from the roster.

He's crushed lefties this year. He'd be a good fit for that purpose. Bader does too for that matter.

I think Toronto's priority is behind all these teams:

Miami Marlins, .496

Cincinnati Reds, .511

Minnesota Twins, .515*

Boston Red Sox, .515

Arizona Diamondbacks, .515

San Francisco Giants, .519

Chicago Cubs, .534

So, kind of unlikely anyone worth owning sneaks through other than perhaps Grichuk. Bader can't get past the Reds.

I definitely see those teams claiming pitchers before bats. Toronto shouldn't have an issue getting one of those bats - Grichuk, Bader or Renfroe - if they put a claim in.

Yeah but it doesn't work like fantasy waiver priority, I don't think. Like the Giants could claim multiple players? I don't know.

Braves vs. Dodgers series starts tonight in LA. Strider pitching Game 1 against Lynn! Should be a fun series to watch!

So a team like the Marlins could claim all those players if they wanted to?

Correct, as far as I understand.

Q: Can a team claim multiple players?

Yes! A team can submit claims for any and all players on waivers, but there’s no turning back. If, for example, the Yankees want to claim everyone on waivers to block the Red Sox from claiming anyone, that’s their prerogative. However, unlike under prior CBAs, waivers are not revocable on either side of the transaction. In this scenario, the Yankees would then be on the hook for all of the money owed to all the players, and they would have to make room on their 40-man roster accordingly. Teams are forbidden from making claims for the express purpose of blocking other teams from making a claim, so the Yankees could not immediately designate a claimed player for assignment to keep them from the Red Sox with no intent to roster him themselves.

Yeah so will be tough for a team to claim multiple players considering they need to make room on their 40-man roster and take on the remaining salaries of those players. Maybe a team claims two players at the most.

Hopefully the Jays could land one of those bats.

Seems doubtful to me. Lots of the teams claiming ahead of us are in the thick of the playoff race too and I'm sure they'll have a little money and some s***** guy on their 40 they can drop to add 1 or 2 guys who could help.

wow - even the cheap Guardians, who have only a slight chance of catching the Twins grabbed 2 of these players. Only guy I could see fall to the Jays is Grichuk and that's because he's s***.

I find this hard to believe.

I mean Grichuk kinda stinks, and has for a while, plus his numbers post trade have been awful. I’m glad the Jays passed.

Yeah but they could literally have just replaced McCoy for 9 days and had a pinch hitter with power

Oh well, no big deal

Cleveland is smart. They picked up prospect capital at the trade deadline and then pick up some decent players for absolutely nothing for a no-downside pennant run.

Does he become a FA now? Couldn't they sign him to the league minimum or something if they wanted?

But they have gone like 11-16 in August and are 5 games back of the Twins. Doesn't seem smart to me.

On July 31st they were 1 game back of the Twins.

Yes I guess. That's correct.

No wait, the Angels could just keep him. They probably just keep him since they are on the hook for his salary anyway.
