The Mariners should be big players for Ohtani. Let him play RF and bring him on board. They can spend and they are the league’s biggest Asian market

I wouldn't rule them out but don't see them forking over $500M-600M+ for him. As well, I'm sure Ohtani wants to create his own legacy and have his own spotlight. Ichiro will always be remembered and entrenched in Seattle Mariners history as one of their all-time greats. I'm not sure Ohtani would want to play in the shadow of Ichiro's legacy.

They check a ton of boxes but they aren't necessarily big spenders. And the location is good in that it's on the West Coast but it's also the most remote MLB team so they have to travel a ton for all of their games.

It's not impossible though. Maybe I should have moved them up to the next tier on my list.

No they aren’t big spenders traditionally but I don’t think there’s ever been a player that makes more sense for them than him. Of course the commitment is half a billion

I think Ohtani would have no problem carving out his own legacy in Seattle.

Bradford Doolittle is estimating the true value of Ohtani is 12 years / $790M.

Holy f***.

An 8 WAR player conservatively at 9M = 72M/year

Of course 8 WAR is derived from pitching and hitting so if he stops doing one because of injury (pitching) he becomes more like a 6 WAR guy

Idk. He will be one of the most exciting free agents in sports in a long time

I'm thinking 50 AAV for Ohtani

When it comes to stuff like this, it's mostly about eclipsing the last highest paid player. It kind of stops being about $/WAR in this realm.

I get that. Those fans are rabid for winning. Same as Red Sox Nation. On its most negative day on the Jays, this Board is supportive by their standards.

I guess Judge being moved would be on par maybe with Betts leaving the Bosox?

If they make tough moves and win, all is forgiven. If they make tough moves and don't win, there will be met by pitchforks at the gates...for real.

From a PR standpoint trading Judge would be like trading Jeter. It will never ever happen.

I don't think Judge is the equivalent of Jeter and his 5 WS rings to Yanks fans. I don't think its close. Because Judge has never won anything other than an AL "home run record". Bonds holds the real one. Teams get over PR issues, if they win.

If I’m Ohtani I’m not signing for anything less than what Saudi Arabia was willing to give Kylian Mbappé.

Nothing like him in the sport. Not a single other player even does both things let alone does both at a elite level. His contact should be a Billion Dollars.

10 years for $100M each year + incentives to make another 100 million.

It takes two to tango.

Saudia Arabia should get an MLB team!

I think the minimum Ohtani gets is 12/600. It might end up being more than that if the big market teams start bidding the price up (Cohen specifically).

I'd be shocked if he's not on the Dodgers next season. He gets to stay in LA where he's presumably comfortable and be on a consistently great team. It's the ideal scenario.

They will probably try to buy one at some point.

But seriously Ohtani should command way more than what's expected. He doesn't have a player comparison historically or currently. He's in a League of his own.

This is true, but…Ohtani is pretty much going to set the bar at a certain number AAV, and then other guys who only play on one side of the ball will basically have no argument to ever surpass whatever that number is, until years from now when the luxury tax levels have gone up and economic factors are different. I’d be fairly surprised to see him get less than 60 million AAV when the high test tier pitchers make anywhere from 35-43 million and the top paid hitters get 30-40.

That said, I don’t know how a team is going to want to try and set up a contract so that IF he ends up no longer being able to play one side of the ball, something would have to give. I can’t see any team wanting to pay him 60 million without any kind of downside protection on his arm blowing out in 2 years and be stuck with an OF/DH

Ohtani -30k to win MVP. Most books just closed it out. Prob hasn’t ever been odds like that 6 weeks out. I wonder if Ohtani was out for the season tomorrow and Seager finished really strong, if he’d have shot. +10k

Presumption of innocence, folks. Just like with Bauer, have to let the process play out. I'm always surprised at the number of people that assume someone is guilty just based off news reports / twitter.

Bauer was never found guilty and he’s no longer in the league. I don’t think it really matters at this point, Franco is finished.

Yeah for something like this, even if he did nothing criminal... If MLB's investigation shows enough "impropriety" then he is likely done.

I suspect Bauer will be back in MLB next season. Bauer essentially admitted that the rough sex took place, the dispute was only whether consent was given / not given for some acts. In the case of Franco, he has not admitted anything. I doubt his career would be finished over photographs showing him kissing a girl.

Way to throw away a potential HOF career, you f***ing POS.

If I said that about lbtq people with blue hair and weird piercings, it wouldn’t land well. Yet is the same.

Holier than thou crowd is really out. He’s a 22 yr old star athlete (likely 21 when he first met her) who has been growing up having everyone lick his balls.

This is a full-figured mamacita. She probably didn’t tell him off the bat she was 14. Different culture. s*** happens. Suspend him rest of the season maybe and move on
