Berrios AAV is like 18M, he’s never missed a start and will probably be worth 3 WAR. With the price of starting pitching today Berrios contract looks like a bargain

Where did I question the Berrios contract by the way?

I was saying how probably last season when Berrios sucked, he wasn't saying the same thing as he is today.

Even after last seasons struggles, I said openly on this board that I give Berrios a mulligan. A lot of other posters thought he was done.

Given his performance this year, let's say Berrios finishes the season out similarly and ends with about 3-3.5 WAR. 5 out of the 6 seasons prior to that he was a 3-4 WAR pitcher consistently. He has the one terrible year last year.

What kind of contract do you believe Berrios would receive as a free agent?

Taijuan Walker signed for 4/72, and Taillon signed for 4/68 last year. They're 30 and 31 respectively when they're signing those deals. Neither have Berrios' overall career WAR or general track record with pitching as many innings in each season. That's not me being trying to be a homer, just laying out reasonably nearby deals from the year before, and their respective WAR numbers.

The year before that you've got Gausman and Ray signing 5/110 deals. Both are coming off of career years, a decent bit better than their past performance has shown, but they each have some decent seasons from earlier.

Stroman also signs that year for 4/92 with a player option. He's got a pretty similar track record to Berrios. Consistent steady performer, nothing too elite but also only one poor season relative to the rest of their steady performances.

Those are probably the rough markers.

Again, where did I say anything wrong about his contract? I said I bet during and after his terrible year last season, a lot of these posters weren't saying how great of a deal Berrios was. Funny how things change quickly all of a sudden.

I guess I'll take that as a compliment and it's nice to see I've made a lasting impact on you since you keep bringing me up in discussions I'm not involved with. You should consider developing some new material though, the constant "DUH you're a HOMER!" schtick is really stale. It shouldn't be a crime to support moves that the front office made instead of trying to be edgy or whatever assorted trolling techniques you are utilizing.

The issue with you is when someone criticizes the front office, you raise pitch forks and become irrational. I'll keep saying it because it's true. You're a huge homer and apologist. Also, you love cherry picking stats to death in order to support your arguments which is sometimes too much.

I don't raise pitchforks or become irrational when someone criticizes the front office with legitimate criticism, that's just nonsense and you know it. I challenge you to find a single post I've made to prove this is true. I've called out posters who post over the top ******** about this being the worst team in baseball, Shatkins should be fired etc. as this does nothing to contribute to baseball discussion and is nearly 100% trolls attempting to stir s*** up.

I am a supporter of the front office and don't deny it, but I fail to see why you feel the need to constantly criticize me about this. I'd hope you could do better than the rinse and repeat homer/apologist commentary but given how completely you've fallen off the rails and subjected the board to a constant stream of troll and bait posts I kind of doubt it.

I think the front office has been very solid in their history of trades and free agent signings since the team hit their competitive phase with a few duds here and there, no different than any other front office. The organization needs to make strides in their amateur acquisition and development if they are to reach the stated goal of sustained contention, but in the mean time they've built a solid major league squad which needs to eventually get over the hump in order to have success in the post season.

Give the cherry picking nonsense a rest, I don't hide when I use statistics to show trends, who's hot/who's not etc. Sometimes I like to think a little outside the box as well and use statistics to support my argument, is this really such a problem for you? I'm more than happy to sling mud with you if you want to continue to call me out every time somebody disagrees with you on this forum, but at the same time I'd be perfectly fine with you leaving me out of arguments with other posters instead of wasting both of our time with stupid arguments.

Michael Lorenzen throws no-no.

Good on the Phillies for ignoring the pitch count Boogeyman.

They are also using a 6-man rotation so his pitch count should be adjusted as a result.

I don't think he will pitch again until next Friday, the irrational fear of pitch counts is ridiculous

I expect the MLB clubs and their medical consultants have plenty of data on which to base decisions. "Fear" doesn't play into it.

Man - if one of my sons made it to the majors, I'd be a crying mess for 9 straight innings. It wouldn't matter if he hit a home run or went 0-4. How can you not be romantic about baseball?

Severino and the Yanks were blown out again today, he hasn't been right since surgery years back. Hr looked like a budding superstar prior, sucks for them. :P

Pure ********.

Some of the limited starting pitcher pitch counts have to do with limiting times through the order, but being scared of pitch counts in general is, and always has been, ********.

RotoWire News: Bryant said Monday that he's uncertain when he'll be able to remove the splint protecting his fractured left index finger, MLB.com reports. "[The Rockies medical staff] don't want me to move [the finger] at all," Bryant said. (8/9/2023)

Kris Bryant has been worth 0.1 WAR in 107 games since signing his 7 year, 182 million dollar deal two years ago. Ouch.

Rockies have to be the worst organization in baseball. Even way worse than the Angels.
