Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 Yes. He would have replaced KK + Varsho + Belt Our coaching staff makes players worse. He would have been below replacement here.

And we were Infact stupid to waste a one year contract on him.

BTS Community Moderator Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 Fangraphs just finished their trade value series. The Braves have: 1) Acuna Jr. 10) Strider 12) Murphy 13) Riley 15) Harris II 31) Albies What AA has done is completely obscene.

I mean its a solid contract but its a lot of money still.

Yes What young star would not want to go to that team, the moves to lock up his young stars. Strider said at the time of his deal, he wanted the security and he wanted to be in Atlanta - and they got it done.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 Cueto was really good today, that was a good pickup by the Marlins for sweet f*** all.

AA probably has his own section in the MLBPA handbook for players to read on how NOT to negotiate contracts.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 Sal Frelick with an infield basehit in his MLB debut...
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 Okay, Frelick is having the game of his life in his debut, two wall saving spectacular catches and 2-2 thus far. Have a day kid! Make that 3-3 with a steak, now.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 Belli is having himself quite a season, not going to be a cheap rental if he keeps this up
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Just seeing Boston box score and realizing their Top 6 is averaging like an .850 OPS. Not bad. Verdugo has gone ice cold though
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Reds are indicating that Jonathan India is available for trade and are looking for a young SPer in return. India has 4 years of control remaining. I know this would never happen, but just for fun, would you deal Manoah for India, given we're going to need a starting 2nd baseman moving forward? Manoah's obviously fallen off a cliff, but India's doesn't exactly look like the rising star he did as a rookie and has been a below average hitter now for 850+ PA's.

Would be interesting, but he's far from good defensively. This season's version of India is probably what he is offensively with maybe some higher upside with the bat, though not expecting anything too much better. I think i'd look into it and see what their ask is, but no Id probably not want to trade Manoah for him straight up, despite Manoah's current struggles. we know Manoah can be better, at least a solid #3 Maybe a solid 3 for an okay 2b makes some baseball sense, but wouldnt want to do it at the deadline. Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 I think we could make that work better than the Reds could. We are looking for a right handed bat and India fits that profile. Whit can play more LF while we sit one of Varsho or KK this year and then he's the full time starter at 2B next year. We would need to trade for a SP to go with Ryu to finish out the year. As for the Reds, Manoah is now a project and the Reds are trying to win now. I think they'd be looking for someone who could provide more immediate help rather than a boom or bust project like Manoah.

I'm not sure they're going to get a young, controllable SP who's going to provide immediate help in the playoff run (or the playoffs) this year.

Yeah probably but they have some zeros in the rotation so trading a 2 WAR 2B for a 2 WAR SP seems like it should be somewhat feasible and should also help them to a decent degree. Might have to sacrifice a year of control or something.

Why would you? Manoah is fat as s*** and is struggling big time with the pitch clock change, which is likely what is fueling his collapse. You lock him into a room and force him to lose weight. His "issues" seem much more fixable than whatever is going on with India. In reality, India might just be very average and his rookie season easily could have been a mirage. He's not doing much with the bat and his defense isn't very good either. Manoah's "peak" was also better than India's peak as well, so what's the benefit to the Jays here? Also, the Jays are not lacking in high minors 2B types. Barger? Martinez? Jimenez? Hell, Schneider? It's not like India is a gold glove defender.

Can’t do that all you can do is hope he goes home in the offseason and isn’t pounding bud heavies and chimichangas
metafour Verified Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Can’t do that all you can do is hope he goes home in the offseason and isn’t pounding bud heavies and chimichangas Of course, it was tongue-in-cheek. But Manoah is a massive douche-canoe who came up quickly and immediately dominated, which likely gave him the false confidence that he could just do whatever he wanted to. He's been thoroughly embarrassed this season, so I'd have to assume given how competitive he is that he's going to go home and have a lot of incentive to not go out a laughing stock. I don't see what the rush would be to try to get rid of him at his absolute lowest point, and for Jonathan India? A guy who has been struggling for longer than he has, and who really doesn't present much intrigue because he's not even a good defender. And again, India's "best" wasn't even as good as Manoah's "best", so it's not like the Jays would be getting a guy with a bigger ceiling than the guy they are shipping out. Seems like a pointless trade considering that the Jays do in fact have several infielders who are near MLB ready.

Brownie posted a hypothetical and said it wasn't happening, I don't think he meant to actually try and do it? Or so I don't think, moving Manoah wouldn't make any sense at all, for the reasons you posted.

Although I would consider moving Manoah in this type of trade if you felt that fat f*** had a low probability of returning to his previous form. Trade him while he still has value. The Reds may be doing the same thing with India...
