Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 The good ones seem to adjust to their declining stuff to still be great. Just do it in a slightly different way. Kershaw is true gem.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 Even Grienke still adapts, smart guys.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 The good ones seem to adjust to their declining stuff to still be great. Just do it in a slightly different way. Kershaw is true gem. And then there's Verlander whose stuff just doesn't decline.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 My favorite SP since Halladay In consideration to pitching, I modeled/emulated everything from Jimmy Key as a pitcher, down to his famous move. lol Kershaw is very similar to me.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 Betting a decent team run line against the Oakland A's is probably the best bet you can make in baseball.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 Tyler Mahle TJ.... Huge hit to the Twins...
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 Tyler Mahle TJ.... Huge hit to the Twins... Horrendous trade. Spencer Steer + Christian Encarnacion-Strand + Steve Hajjar. For 9 mediocre starts from Mahle.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 Horrendous trade. Spencer Steer + Christian Encarnacion-Strand + Steve Hajjar. For 9 mediocre starts from Mahle. That's in hindsight though. A playoff team that wants to go the extra step needs to make those moves. He wasn't a FA, he kept them in all the games and he wasn't a FA. Half the time the specs turn out to be dog s***.... The risk of going large or going home...

Sure, but it's still going to be a horrendous result.

Lol this is like the Jays/Berrios trade except Berrios was excellent the half season we got him (though we didn’t make the playoffs and it didn’t matter)
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 SWR + Martin (both great prospects at the time) for 12 good starts from Berrios in a year we didn’t even make the playoffs And then a full season of negative WAR. The Mahle trade might have been better?? Haha
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 Lol this is like the Jays/Berrios trade except Berrios was excellent the half season we got him (though we didn’t make the playoffs and it didn’t matter) I'm pretty sure the Jays had a strong idea that Berrios was going to extend when making that trade. Nothing wrong with that trade at the time, nor the extension.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 I'm pretty sure the Jays had a strong idea that Berrios was going to extend when making that trade. Maybe, but I don’t really consider the extension as part of the trade because it didn’t happen til the offseason and it was an optional move for each side
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 The Braves announced that Fried and Wright are gone for at least 2 months, they should get by with Soroka and Dodd or Shuster, but another injury could be devastating.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 James Paxton pitching for the Red Sox tonight. How many innings does he last before getting hurt?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 Remember when I was pushing for the Jays to sign Nathan Eovaldi. f*** I'm smrt.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 Does he make it to the mound? Pulls a muscle walking to Fenway this afternoon.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 James Paxton pitching for the Red Sox tonight. How many innings does he last before getting hurt? 3 innings before his arm explodes.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 Remember when I was pushing for the Jays to sign itely. f*** I'm smrt. 2.2 WAR so far in 8 starts. 2 year/$34M contract signed - what a steal by the Rangers. He did post a 5.7 WAR in 2021. Who knows if Toronto was in on him or if he wanted to come here. But damn what a pickup by the Rangers. Definitely would have been better than signing Chris Bassitt.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 Remember when I was pushing for the Jays to sign Nathan Eovaldi. f*** I'm smrt. Had a monster start last night but it was against Oakland… actually his last 3 starts have been nasty damn. He didn’t look great near the beginning though and be was facing easy teams. He’s been a great value signing so far but really the question is if his arm can hold up.

Also, Perez is somehow doing well again with his smoke & mirrors.
