Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 There's almost nothing left on the market for the Twins. At a minimum they could get Luke Voit who sucks but in their sorry state might actually help. Profar is probably the best guy left and isn't exactly an impact bat either but he would also help.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 The bright spot for the Twins is that they are in the Central so they have a shot at the division by virtue of how mid the division is. Of course now there is a balanced schedule, and the Guardians are probably still better than them. Division still gives them a shot though. Not exactly sure what the Marlins are doing.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 Miranda and Polanco are three win players Need Buxton to stay healthy somehow. Seems impossible Royce Lewis comes back in the summer Look at Cleveland’s offense last year. That won them the division.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 It’s boring the same way Cleveland is boring but they’re the second best team in the Central

Minne still sucks at D, baserunning, offsense....basically everything that isn't pitching now. Looks liek Minnesota is really trying to go on pitching alone with no clear top guy and a bunch of 2's and 3's. It could work for the reg season to a point but i see a lot of 1 run games in their future.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 Kim has lost her mind. Marlins defense is going to be garbage.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 Twins need Buxton and Correa to stay healthy for a good chunk of the season if they want to have a chance at winning the division. They also have other nice pieces in the lineup mentioned above like Polanco, Kepler, Miranda, Lewis. Pitching wise, they have a lot of great depth and inning eaters, though you don't really see a No. 1 or 2 starter in that rotation. Unless Lopez and Mahle take that next step. I still like Cleveland better in that division, but the Twins should be a second place team and could give them a run at the division possibly if things break right.

Maybe they trade an arm for a bat at some point. But yeah no impact bats left on the FA market. Profar actually would be a good fit. Can play everywhere and likely gets ABs in that lineup and plays on somewhat of a contender.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 Wendle at SS lol I feel sorry for the Marlins pitchers. Alcantara is going to ask for a trade by mid season.

Jays are going to give Espi the starting gig at 2B again this year to build up his All-Star potential and trade him for Alcantara.

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 I'm not sure what the Marlins are doing. They have a stable of great young arms, but that's not going to be enough to carry an offense that's just Chisolm, Arraez, and a bunch of crap. And there's nothing coming from the farm to help the offense. Is the plan just to Keep losing until the arms fall off one by one and they have nothing?

It wouldn't be a bad model for success (collect arms and high obp guys) if it included strong defense. Without that component, they are wasting too much of that pitching value.

But instead they are just playing a bunch of 2B out of position and making everything worse defensively.

But instead they are just playing a bunch of 2B out of position and making everything worse defensively. 2B playing CF, SS, 3B and 2B. Overpaid pylons who also can’t hit in tte OF corners. Garrett Cooper the only viable 1B on the team. Roster is embarrassing after the rotation.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 Definitely a huge difference in philosophy from the Jays emphasizing run prevention. Toronto has three good CF defenders and Miami plan for the position is to try a 2B who hasn't played a single inning of OF in his seven year pro career? Maybe he does go out there and perform just like Varsho, but doesn't exactly seem like a smart gamble

I was so positive they were going to trade Lopez for one of the Cards OF.. or maybe even a deal with Yepez.. I just dont see either what Ng is doing with that team...
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 Look at the Marlins 40 man roster right now. All of these guys except for their actual starting 2B are natural 2B with few exceptions. 2B- Arraez (he's more of a 1B/DH) 3B- Segura SS- Wendle CF- Jazz Bench- Berti, Groshans Minors- Xavier Edwards and Jacob Amaya on the 40 man 8 guys on the 40 man roster are 2B. The worst defensive player out of any of them is their actual starting 2B. I think Amaya might be an actual SS and maybe Groshans can handle 3B just fine (though his bat plays better at 2B)? So nearly 20 percent of their 40 man roster is occupied by second baseman. Lmao

Virgil_Hiltz Verified Member Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 I don’t think the O’s will suck at all. They’re going to get full seasons from Adley and Henderson, Rodriguez will debut at some point, have a decent pen and a couple other useful guys who come up at some point. The days of the O’s being a pushover are over it. Agreed

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 Marlins are going to waste their talented SPs on a slap hitting offense with no defense. It's very unfortunate. They could be a sleeper team with their rotation. Just need to make some upgrades to that lineup.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 There was a time not too long ago where it looked like they had 5 really good spec OF almost ready, HR smashing 1b prospect, Jazz at SS on the way, Anderson their 3b cornerstone off limits in trade.. Then apart from Jazz, it all went to s*** on the position side. Still a pitching factory, they have a lot of depth and more depth on the way…
