BlueJaysFever Verified Member Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 I do think the shift changes provide some benefit to hitters. Right now the shift favors pitchers because they also pitch to the shift. That should change. Also Joey Gallo is probably crying tears of relief
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 P.S. Pitch timer is a solid rule, I just worry of the grey area.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Brian Kenny says all players were against the clock. lol In the committee vote, I do not know where to find this. Just watching MLBN.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Speeding up the game won’t do s*** for popularity. I’ve always said the reason baseball is less popular is because there are too many games. Its also the reason football is most popular in America. Its obvious people prefer less time commitment for the sports teams they follow. Less time commitment = more casuals = more fans overall Its the reason Soccer is the most popular sport in the world I thought soccer was the most popular sport in the world because it was really affordable for kids to play and because anyone can generally run around and kick a ball with relative success. Sports like hockey cost a ton, while sports like baseball and golf can be very difficult for kids to play and enjoy at a young age. I'm not sure if shorter baseball games will increase popularity, but I still do think it's good for the game. Shaving 20 minutes off each game is a move in the right direction and improving the pace of play will make it more enjoyable for those watching.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 The team must designate two infielders for each side of second base and they cannot switch (for example, a team can't have a stud defender move back and forth based upon the handedness of the hitter). Why do they give a flying fadoo which infielder is on what side of second base? As long as two two on each side that should be it. Stop trying to make to make the game "better". I'm actually shocked that teams aren't already flip flopping their stud defensive SS back an forth based on who's batting.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Gallo just needed to get out the s*** hole that is NYC. They wrecked him out of town, just like fans did to copious amounts of good hockey players in Toronto.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 They wrecked him out of town, just like fans did to copious amounts of good hockey players in Toronto. Maple Leaves fans are probably the worst in all of sports. Entitled, obnoxious, terribly fickle. Negative and crying all the time. Easily the worst in all of sports. My decision not supporting them growing up was definitely not wanting to be apart of that terrible fan base.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Brian Kenny says all players were against the clock. lol In the committee vote, I do not know where to find this. Just watching MLBN. That was brought up as a concern during CBA negotiations when MLB insisted on 6 executives and 4 players on the committee. It means Shapiro voted for the clock.

Rangers! The worst fan base, bar-none.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 More rules more controversy. The only one rule needed was having roboumps for strikes/balls. This will be more of a s*** show for the sake of speeding up the great game we had. Idiots. Agree, one of the biggest issues with the game is umpiring balls and strikes. All except the base size is dumb imo

I think we can both agree there’s a myriad of reasons Baseball is not more popular, and we can probably both agree that game time/speed has almost nothing to do with it.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Not saying speeding up the game is bad thing, just that it really doesn’t change much in the way of “growing the sport”

glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Speeding up the game won’t do s*** for popularity. It's not going to make baseball as popular nationally as it used to be, but it's still a necessary move, IMO. I've been a baseball fan for 30 years, and grew up with the game, so I can sit through a 4 hour TTO fest and still be entertained by it, but if MLB wants to attract new fans, casual fans, and younger fans, then they need to evolve. Yes, they will also need to market their stars better too, but marketing the stars better without making the games easier to sit through for the average fan won't solve the issue. They need to do both. As far as the rule changes, I like all of them. Baseball fans are usually the fans who hate change the most, but I think the pitch clock is going to end up being universally loved soon enough. The players are probably going to hate it until they get used to it, but it should help the entertainment value of the game.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 So when do they talk about the ball again???
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Good hitters should be rewarded.

keggy Verified Member Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 They’re basically just trying to revert the game back to what it was 50 years ago. I think banning the shift will have the opposite effect because it rewards players who don't change their hitting approach. You will never, ever see a hitter like Tony Gwynn or Wade Boggs again.

5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 Seems like the moment MLB jumped the shark. It's ridiculous that the defense is forbidden from positioning effectively. And what's the deal with the micromanaging of the pitcher? Just seems like desperate flailing from Manfred to be honest. The game's great as it is. These idiots need to stop messing with it. Also funny that they don't implement the one no-brainer way to make the game better (robo umps)
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 My Thoughts: Pitch Clock: I'd like to see it just be 30 seconds in all scenarios. There's no reason to make it too confusing for fans. I like the rest of the pitch clock related issues. A good outcome stands if the defense violates the pitch clock, basically giving the offense a freebie. The pitcher can still try to pick a runner off after two step-offs, but if he gets it wrong the runner advances. Shift Ban: I don't like the idea of infielders not being able to switch AT ALL. They should be allowed to switch at will in between batters as long as they hustle and don't change out any gear (they don't get extra time to do so either). I like the rest of the shift ban rules. Larger Bases. I like it.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 PED's should be legal in all PROFESSIONAL sports. The object of the game is making money through entertainment. There's nothing more entertaining in sports than high level athletes performing at their peak. Let the millionaire players use PED's correctly under doctor supervision. Absolutely not, because then amateur players will be encouraged to use them to get on the radar of the professional sports.
